Unconventional oil and gas development in Argentina  \nPrepared by Sara Turner, Mariana Conte Grand, Julie Rozenberg  \nArgentina is currently a net importer of natural gas and of refined petroleum products, and a net exporter of crude oil. It could however increase shale oil and gas production from the Vaca Muerta reservoir and become a net exporter by 2025 if it increased oil and gas transport capacity from Neuquén. However, in the long run (up to 2050), the benefits from Vaca Muerta and other unconventional oil and gas are clouded by many uncertainties. Global commitments to reach net zero emissions by 2050 create many uncertainties on energy markets.
