In the distant was a rumble of thunder. There were rows of weathered headstones each one marking someone else's loss. Freshly turned earth surrounded my mother's grave, the dark soil was a painful reminder that this was real and that she was really gone. I had already cried so much over the past few months that I was surprised I still had tears left. As I watched the casket disappear into the ground, a fresh wave of grief hit me. This was the final goodbye to my mother, who had fought so hard against breast cancer only to lose her battle in the end. Life would never be the same without her. I didn't know how Amina and I were supposed to move forward. Our mother had been our rock, our protector, and the one constantin our lives. She had practically raised us alone. My father was a truck driver who was rarely home, and when my mother's health began to decline, he disappeared completely. I turned and saw my best friend, Kalani, standing beside me. Her eyes were red from crying too, but she didn't say a word. She didn't have to because \nher presence alone was enough. The funeral director handed out pink balloons which was my mother's favorite color. One by one, we released them into the air. I watched them drift higher and higher, until they become tiny specks against the gray sky then they disappeared completely. For a moment, I imagined my mother watching from somewhere above, finally free from the pain that had consumed her body. \nA cold breeze swept through the cemetery, carrying the scent of wet grass and freshly dug earth. Then the first raindrops began to fall. Within seconds, tiny dark spots appeared on our black funeral clothes. The gloomy weather matched the heaviness in my chest. \nPeople hurried toward their cars, opening umbrellas and helping elderly relatives navigate the muddy ground. I took one last look at my mother's grave before turni","cbCaigxUZ7dx9Mwx","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaigxUZ7dx9Mwx","pdf",4165596,296,"English","# Table of contents\n## Chapter 1\n## Chapter 2\n## Chapter 3\n## Chapter 4\n## Chapter 5\n## Chapter 6\n## Chapter 7\n## Chapter 8\n## Chapter 9\n## Chapter 10\n## Chapter 11\n## Chapter 12\n## Chapter 13\n## Chapter 14\n## Chapter 15\n## Chapter 16\n## Chapter 17\n## Chapter 18\n## Chapter 19\n## Chapter 20","[{\"question\":\"What happens after the funeral service at the church repast?\",\"answer\":\"The church is crowded with people offering condolences, which overwhelms Melanie and Amina, and they finally seek space to breathe before leaving the emotional pressure behind.\"}]","Back to You - Chapter Series - Chapter 1 - Melanie In the Past | PDF",456]
