Citizenship also relates to other aspects of society such as family religion ethnicity and the behavioural patterns in society. Australia is a multicultural country and the Government must be bringing people together by making the acquiring of citizenship easier to get through setting up a realistic citizenship test which includes a basic English test. People who speak English as a second language simply need the Basic English that enables them to communicate in Australia. Setting a test of academic level English is merely trying to eliminate certain people and races. This becomes a form of indirect racism as it will eliminate some nationalities from non English speaking countries. Lets we not forget that citizenship is a way for bonding and uniting people including making everybody equal. Citizenship will eradicate discrimination and it will give people a universal identity which links them with the country they live. People’s choice to citizenship is a fundamental issue that determines were people belong and people must be given a choice to do so without making it difficult for them to do so. \nIn view of the above I say A BIG NO to such a difficult English test that has been designed with an intension to eliminate other nationals from applying for citizenship. I personally look at it as a violation to human rights. Maybe we need to ask the members of parliament to write the test themselves and see how many of them will pass the test.","cbCairmoiIsap5Aq","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairmoiIsap5Aq","pdf",40348,"English","# Key position\n## Basic English requirement over academic level\n## Equality, belonging, and unity\n# Concerns about human rights and indirect discrimination\n## Indirect racism through exclusions\n## Call for fairness in testing","[{\"question\":\"What does Submission 557 argue about the citizenship language test?\",\"answer\":\"It argues that the test should require only basic English so applicants can communicate in Australia.\"},{\"question\":\"Why does the submission oppose an academic-level English test?\",\"answer\":\"It claims an academic test would eliminate certain nationalities from non-English-speaking countries, amounting to indirect racism.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the submission describe the purpose of citizenship?\",\"answer\":\"It presents citizenship as a way to bond and unite people, promote equality, and give individuals a universal identity linked to their country of residence.\"}]","Australian Citizenship Legislation Amendment (Strengthening the Requirements for Australian Citizenship and Other Measures) Bill 2017 - Submission 557 - Citizenship language test must just be basic English | PDF",1789703266]
