Your AFQT score is determined by combining your scores from four sections of the ASVAB:  \n• Arithmetic Reasoning (AR)  \n• Mathematics Knowledge (MK)  \n• Paragraph Comprehension (PC)  \n• Word Knowledge (WK)  \nSpecifically, AFQT is calculated as 2VE + AR + MK, where VE (Verbal Expression) is derived from your PC and WK scores. The resulting raw score is then converted to a percentile.  \nSo, what's the point of the rest of the ASVAB sections? The AFQT score determines your eligibility to enlist in the military at all. Once you've qualified to enlist by achieving a qualifying AFQT score, your performance on the other ASVAB sections determines which specific jobs you can be assigned to. Each branch combines subtest scores into its own set of composite (or \"line\") scores.  \nThe AFQT is reported as a percentile between 1 and 99. The reference group is a nationally representative sample of 18-to 23-year-olds who took the ASVAB as part of a 1997 Department of Defense study (the\"Profile of American Youth\") .
