Whether striving to be the best they can be through academic excellence, commitment to the Arts, sporting endeavour, supporting charity or community events, Langley students have represented themselves and the school superbly. Here you can read about some of the incredible experiences that make Langley truly extraordinary. Be it cultural visits to far-flung places such as Moscow and St.Petersburg, cooking with worldfamous chefs, representing the school in national events or performing to packed houses in a range of school productions, Langley really has the variety of activities to cater for every need. \nISSUE 4 | AUTUMN 2013 \nAspiring to be the best we can be: Headteacher introduction \nAn introduction from our Headteacher ~~ ~~ \nHEADS LINES \nWelcome to the January edition of Aspire. On behalf of everyone at Langley, I hope that 2014 is peaceful, productive and successful for you and your family. \nAs you will see from the numerous articles herein, the Autumn Term was exceedingly busy for our students and staff both inside and outside the classroom. Some of the highlights were: \n􀁸 Following our best overall set of GCSE examination results on record, approximately 1500 people attended our annual Open Evening/ Day in September – we believe that this is the highest number ever to attend this event. \n􀁸 There were exciting trips abroad to France, Belgium and Russia in October. In the same month, we ran ‘Project RB’, which you may have read about in the local press. This involved our students working with Raymond Blanc’s chefs to produce a gourmet meal for a delighted group of diners in our theatre. We focused on life beyond school for our older students throughout the month of October as they near the end of their Langley career, with local employers and universities coming into school or inviting us to visit their establishments. \n􀁸 2012/13 was our best-ever year in sport, so it was fitting that we introduced, for the first time, a highly successful Sports Awards evening in November. Our Leavers’Awards evening later in the same week was a joy, with former students and their families returning to Langley. This was followed by a marvellous ‘Countdown to Christmas’musical concert, with very talented musicians and singers from all year groups playing to a packed, highly appreciative audience in the sports hall. Towards the end of November, there were fantastic pantomimes performed by our Year 7 and Year 8 students-entirely in French and German. \n􀁸 In December, there was a special afternoon for our local senior citizens, who experienced the culinary and musical expertise of Langley students and staff. Year 7s went on a great Science trip to the National Space Centre and Year 11s even found time to undertake their mock examinations, with some doing their GCSE English for real! \nI am looking forward to an equally fulfilling Spring term and would like to take this opportunity to thank our Governors for their first-class support and challenge, my colleagues for their wonderful team spirit and commitment to the young people here, parents for supporting their child and our school to be the best we can be and, of course, to Langley students who genuinely are our finest advertisement. \nYours sincerely \nP. Talbot Headteacher \n2 \nAspiring to be the best we can be: Academic Achievement \nACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: External examination success recognised by the Department for Education. \nIn November each year, the Department for Education produces an annual report (the RAISE report) which provides some context for sets of examination results. It is one of the key documents that OfSTED uses to inspect the academic achievement of a school. The Langley 2013 report was once again very pleasing with the following headlines: \n\n| G","cbCailsrUTCR6tqp","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailsrUTCR6tqp","pdf",1994863,16,"English","# Aspiring to be the best we can be: Headteacher introduction\n# Aspiring to be the best we can be: Academic Achievement\n## GCSE performance measures and national comparisons","[{\"question\":\"What is Aspire and which issue is covered?\",\"answer\":\"Aspire is the official termly newsletter of Langley School.
