We are off track to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. The challenges are mounting. Developing countries are struggling to secure financing for their development priorities. Against this backdrop, the role of the World Bank Group as the largest provider of development and climate finance is more important than ever. We expect the Bank to continue delivering on its mission of ending poverty and boosting shared prosperity on a livable planet.  \nIn our joint mission to fight poverty, inequality, and global challenges, the Nordic and Baltic countries remain deeply committed to multilateralism, open and rules-based trade and a world order based on international law, including the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity.  \nThe Nordic and Baltic countries unequivocally condemn Russia’s ongoing illegal, unprovoked and unjustified full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. Our support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity is unwavering. Our main priority is to strengthen Ukraine, to secure a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law. The World Bank and the IMF play a critical role in supporting Ukraine’s relief, recovery, reconstruction, and reform efforts towards EU accession, as well as supporting Ukraine’s budgetary and macroeconomic stability. It is imperative that this support continues.  \nThe Comprehensive Peace Plan and the exchange of hostages and prisoners gives hope of ending the suffering in Gaza and are important first steps towards peace between Israel and Palestine. We call for the release of clearance revenues by Israel to the Palestinian Authorities and securing corresponding banking relations. Significant international financing will be required for Gaza’s recovery after a ceasefire. We welcome the World Bank’s continued support to the Palestinian Authorities, and the necessary reforms it must undertake.  \nWe applaud the record high replenishment of IDA and its strong policy package – prioritizing inclusive economic growth, private sector development and job creation, crisis preparedness and prevention, gender equality, climate action, energy access, food security and the protection of nature. The Nordic-Baltic Constituency takes pride in being the fourth largest donor to IDA. We urge countries that are capable to do so, to step up their contributions, or join us as donor countries. We look forward to a deep discussion on IDA’s financing capacity and long-term financial sustainability.  \nWe commend the steps taken through the World Bank Evolution. We stress the need for continued reforms to further increase development and climate impact, building on the World Bank’s people, knowledge, technical expertise, data and financial capacity. We also welcome ongoing discussions on a shareholding review and voice reforms.
