Introduction \nWelcome to GCE English Language and Literature \nThe 2015 GCE English Language and Literature specification and sample assessment materials have been developed in consultation with the teaching community, higher education, learned societies and subject associations. Teachers from a range of schools and colleges – in focus groups, phone interviews, network groups and face-to-face interviews – have provided feedback at each stage and have helped us to shape the specification . \nThis Getting Started guide provides an overview of the new GCE specification, to help you get to grips with the changes to content and assessment, and to help you understand what these mean for you and your students. \nFor more help and support, please visit the Edexcel website, or contact Clare Haviland, our English Subject Advisor . Clare and her team are on hand to provide centres with answers about the content or teaching of the specifications. Contact \nthem at [TeachingEnglish@pearson.com](TeachingEnglish@pearson.com) \n2. What’s changed? \nHow has GCE English Language and Literature changed? \nChanges to AS and A level qualifications \n● From September 2015, GCE English Language and Literature will be a linear qualification . This means that all examinations must be sat at the end of the course . \n● This qualification is available in the summer series only, with the first assessment of AS level in summer 2016 and A level in summer 2017. \n● The AS will be a standalone qualification . AS results will not contribute to final A level grades, although students will still be able to enter for both AS and A level within the same subject. \nChanges to subject criteria \nThe subject criteria for GCE Language and Literature have been revised. All awarding organisations’ specifications for GCE English Language and Literature must meet these criteria: \n● one compulsory non-literary text at AS and A level \n● reduced emphasis on comparison \n● less genre prescription at both AS and A Level \n● reduced coursework weighting from 40%–20% \n● inclusion of specific language levels. \nChanges to Assessment Objectives \nThe GCE English Language ","cbCain1MxeXkzCTQ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCain1MxeXkzCTQ","pdf",734041,48,"English","# Introduction\n## Welcome to GCE English Language and Literature\n# What’s changed?\n## How has GCE English Language and Literature changed?\n## Changes to AS and A level qualifications\n## Changes to subject criteria\n## Changes to Assessment Objectives\n# A level English Language and Literature\n## Component 1: Voices in Speech and Writing (exam)\n## Component 2: Varieties in Language and Literature (exam)\n## Component 3: Investigating and Creating Texts (coursework)\n# AS level Language and Literature\n## Component 1: Voices in Speech and Writing\n## Component 2: Varieties in Language and Literature\n# Planning\n## AS and A level co-teachability\n## Co-teaching FAQs\n# Assessment guidance\n## Assessment Objectives and weightings – A level\n## Breakdown of Assessment Objectives – A level\n## Assessment Objectives – AS level\n## Breakdown of Assessment Objectives – AS level\n## Assessment Objectives and mark schemes\n# Appendices\n## Suggested Reading\n## Language levels guidance","[{\"question\":\"What structural change applies to GCE English Language and Literature from September 2015?\",\"answer\":\"From September 2015, GCE English Language and Literature is a linear qualification, meaning examinations are taken at the end of the course.\"},{\"question\":\"How do AS and A level results relate under the revised qualification?\",\"answer\":\"AS is a standalone qualification; AS results do not contribute to final A level grades, though students can enter for both within the same subject.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the five Assessment Objectives (AOs) and their overall coverage?\",\"answer\":\"The specification requires five refined AOs to be covered in full: AO1–AO5, with weightings ranging from 10–30% depending on the objective (total 100%).\"},{\"question\":\"How is the A level made up in terms of components and weighting?\",\"answer\":\"The revised A level specification has three components: Component 1 (Voices in Speech and Writing) and Component 2 (Varieties in Language and Literature) are examinations at 40% each, and Component 3 (Investigating and Creating Texts) is coursework at 20%.\"}]","AS and A Level English Language and Literature - Getting Started Guide - 2015 | PDF",1792462574,121]
