Through her upward gaze, I wanted to explore hope as a quiet form of perseverance, and the courage it takes to believe in something we cannot yet clearly see . \nI love drawing with Nitram Charcoal because of how much control it gives me without taking away the fluidity of charcoal. I can work loosely and cover large areas quickly, but I can also use the H grade to work with a very fine point, refining transitions and working on the smallest details. I especially enjoy the particular tone of Nitram Charcoal and the richness of its dark tones.” \n~ Khaled Matar \nKhaled Matar is a Romanian figurative artist born in 2001. He studied at The Swedish Academy of Realist Art and The Florence Academy of Art. His work is driven by an interest in storytelling, often inspired by archetypal stories . He explores timeless themes of the search for meaning, discovery, and transformation, and how these narratives continue to shape the way we understand the human experience. \nHis work has been exhibited internationally, including at Sotheby’s in New York and the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona through the International ARC Salon, as well as in a solo exhibition at Rotenberg-Uzunov Gallery in Bucharest, a group exhibition at the Real Círculo de la Amistad in Córdoba as part of the Almenara Art Prize, and a group \nexhibition at Frederiksborg Castle in Copenhagen as part of the PortraitNow! contest. His work has received recognition in international competitions, including a Third Place Award at the 14th International ARC Salon in the Da Vinci Initiative category, the SmartCoach Award at the 2025 Almenara Art Prize, and Honorable Mentions from the Portrait Society of America’s Future Generation competition. He was awarded a summer scholarship to The Florence Academy of Art in 2021 and placed second in the 2022 ARC Scholarship Competition . Two of his works were selected for the Lunar Codex’s Polaris Collection, an archive of contemporary art destined for the Moon aboard SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy as part of a NASA lunar mission. \n[https://www.khaledmatar.com/](https://www.khaledmatar.com/) \n[www.nitramcharcoal.com](www.nitramcharcoal.com) \nNITRAMTMMC FINE ART CHARCOAL \nAfter a smash hit 500th issue, we’re back with what I hope is an equally enjoyable edition. To kick o , our cover artist, Claire Yates, shows us how she painted Enrique Iglesias, a magni􀂅cent Maine Coon from her local cat café in Málaga, Spain. The results – in pastel – are applaud worthy. \nWe’ve then got architecture aplenty, starting with former cover star Matty Burnham’s take on a lodge in Yorkshire, John Harrison’s painting of a scene from his holiday in Provence and Lydia Wood’s drawing of London’s pubs. She’s not going to stop until she’s captured all 3000-plus of them. Take all of this as your inspiration to paint what’s on your doorstep and beyond: it’s a great reminder that we live in a beautiful, inspiring world. \nIf you fancy something inside the home, how about painting what’s on your plate? Vicki McGrath does just that with a medley of vegetables, captured in gouache with an emphasis on light, colour and shadow. \nThen we have a great piece on how best to frame your art; experts including Tom Croft and Sarah Jane Moon dole out their advice. Remember: a good painting can be ruined by a bad mount or frame.","cbCaidKsPH15dolh","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidKsPH15dolh","pdf",38486983,100,"English","# On the Cover\n## Featured artists and artworks\n# Creative Techniques and Materials\n## Pastel, gouache, and charcoal approaches\n# Framing and Presentation\n## Expert advice on mounts and frames\n# Inspiration: Everyday Subjects\n## Architecture and painting what’s on your doorstep\n# Competitions and Community Voting\n## British Art Prize and People’s Choice Award","[{\"question\":\"What main creative topics are covered in this issue?\",\"answer\":\"The issue emphasizes improving artwork through technique features such as pastel, gouache, and charcoal, alongside guidance on how to frame finished work.\"},{\"question\":\"Which artists and themes are highlighted on the cover and inside?\",\"answer\":\"The cover features Claire Yates painting Enrique Iglesias, and the issue includes stories and processes from multiple artists such as Khaled Matar and Lydia Wood, with themes ranging from storytelling to drawing local scenes.\"},{\"question\":\"What voting or awards information is included?\",\"answer\":\"The British Art Prize has closed, with winners revealed next month, and readers are invited to vote for the People’s Choice Award from the final artworks.\"}]","Artists & Illustrators - November 2026 Issue | PDF",1790722567,154]
