It explains that AR supports “recreational reading” and should guide book choice without being the only factor. Parents learn to use ZPD to select “just right” books, understand support expectations, and rely on teacher input alongside AR results. The guide also shows how to use AR BookFinder to confirm whether books are part of the program, locate BL and AR quiz numbers, and support quiz discovery.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/","Exam",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/ar-and-home-connect-information-for-parents-2015/268945/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/ar-and-home-connect-information-for-parents-2015/268945.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Fez","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-11-03","2026-09-15",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",8,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"What is AR and what is its purpose?","Question",{"text":63,"@type":64},"AR stands for Accelerated Reader. It should be used to GUIDE students in narrowing down their book choices, but SHOULD NOT be the sole factor in choosing books. \nYour child’s preferences in bookselection should be taken into consideration when selecting books within their range. \nHow Does AR Work? \n•Students take a STAR reading or STAR Early Literacy test to determine their level and reading range. \n•The test is given several times throughout the year. \n•A report is created detailing the student’s results. \n•BOTH teacher and parent will receive a copy of the report(s) . \nUse your child’s ZPD range found on the parent report to help select \n“just right” books. \nPlease note… \n• Star tests are not the only assessment used to judge reading ability and teachers have a final say in assessment results and reading ranges. \n• ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development) indicates the range a student can read from minimum to maximum support. Therefore, the higher end of the ZPD should be with teacher/parental support. A student reading independently would be most successful in the low to middle range of the ZPD. \n• Example: Assume your child’s ZPD range is 1.0-1.9. This does not mean that your child should get a book on the higher end of the range (1.7-1.9) . \n• Your child’s teacher will suggest an appropriate range for them to begin, usually on the lower range (1.0-1.5) . If the child’s quiz results are positive, the teacher will notify you to increase the BL (book level) . \n• As always if you are not sure, you can always contact your child’s teacher. \nAR BookFinder \n[http://www.arbookfind.com/](http://www.arbookfind.com/) \nSelecting an AR Book \nUnder “Quick Search”type in the TITLE of the book you have selected foryour child to read and pressGO. For this example we will search for the title Hop on Pop. Notice that I did not \ninclude the author, Dr. Seuss. \nIMPORTANT NOTE Not \nall books found at your public library are AR books. \nYou can use [www.arbookfind.com](www.arbookfind.com to find)[ ](www.arbookfind.com to find)[to find](www.arbookfind.com to find)[ ](www.arbookfind.com to find)out if a book is considered to be part of the AR program. \nFinding the Book Level and AR Quiz number \nBook level (BL) and AR Quiz number are very important items to look \nfor. \nFor this example we have searched for the book Hop on Pop. You will notice that the book level (BL) is a 1.5. If your child’s ZPD range (reading range) fits the 1.5 book level (BL) this book would be ideal for them to read and take a quiz on. \nIf you check a book out from a public library or find that some of the books from your home are AR books, please write down the AR Quiz Number and send it with your child. Without the quiz number a student may not be able to find the quiz. \nTo Find Books in Your Child’s ZPD Range: \nLog onto [arbookfind.com](arbookfind.com)[ ](arbookfind.com)[Click on Advanced Search.](Click on Advanced Search.) \nSelect the Interest Level and enter the desired book levels (ZPD range) . \nClick Go! \n(This list could come in handy on a trip to the public library or bookstore.)","cbCairhTcMKAQ7kL","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairhTcMKAQ7kL","pdf",2230105,17,"English","# What is AR?\n## How Does AR Work?\n## Please note\n# AR BookFinder\n## Selecting an AR Book\n## Finding the Book Level and AR Quiz number\n## To Find Books in Your Child’s ZPD Range","[{\"question\":\"What is AR and what is its purpose?\",\"answer\":\"AR stands for Accelerated Reader.
