You have chosen to take a college-level course that provides a survey of global history to the present. This course will be rigorous, but highly rewarding if you put in the appropriate amount of work. Over the summer, you will be completing assignments that will make it possible for us to cover all of our material prior to the APexam in May so it is very important that you complete these tasks. Summer assignments (Parts 1-3) will be due on the first day of class in August and be taken for a grade. If you have any questions over the summer, please email me at [kellettsa@lee.k12.ga.us](kellettsa@lee.k12.ga.us).
Note: You will be required to purchase a copy of AMSCO Advanced Placement World History: Modern prior to the start of school. We will be reading and completing work out of this book all year so it is very important that you have your own copy. The cost of this book is around $22 and can be purchased at the following link:
[https://www.perfectionlearning.com/social-studies/advanced-placement/world-history-ap-exam.html](https://www.perfectionlearning.com/social-studies/advanced-placement/world-history-ap-exam.html)
[Part1: Geography](Part1: Geography)
This course is a basic overview of the most significant regions/empires in the world. As such, we jump around from region to region quite often. It will be important that you are able to locate the major regions and empires on a world map throughout the course. Take a look at the map of the AP regions and familiarize yourself with it. Then, complete the attached blank map where you should color and label the appropriate regions, countries, and bodies of water/ landforms listed below. A geography quiz over this information will take place the first week of school.

| AP Regions | | Bodies of Water and Landforms | | Countries | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| ••
••
• | The Americas Africa Europe
Asia Oceania | ••
••
••
••
••
• | Ganges River Tigris River Euphrates River Sahara Desert Mediterranean Sea Black Sea
Yellow Sea Red Sea
Atlantic Ocean Pacific Ocean Indian Ocean | ••
••
••
••
••
••
••
•• | China Japan Egypt
India Russia Mexico Canada Spain Portugal
United Kingdom France
Italy Algeria South Africa Brazil
Peru |

AP World History: World Regions
Part 2: Prologue: History before 1200 C.E.
Read the prologue section of your AMSCO Advanced Placement World History: Modern textbook-pages xli-lxii. As you read, take notes on the section. All notes should be handwritten, no typed notes will be accepted. Please see the Notes How To below for a more detailed explanation.
At the end of your notes, answer the six reflection questions found on page lxii. You do not have to write the question. Each answer should be written in complete sentences.
You will submit your completed notes and questions in class the first day of school.
You will have a test over this material within the first 2 weeks of school.
AMSCO Notes: How To
• You will be assigned notes from your AMSCO textbook throughout the year. These will make up the majority of your homework.
How To:
• Write down and use the headings from the book in your notes
o Example: Government Developments in the Song Dynasty
• Indent, use bullets/symbols, etc to denote important subtopics
o Feel free to use shorthand-these are YOUR notes so make sure YOU can understand them!
• Underline key vocabulary
o These terms are already listed in bold in your textbook ▪ If it’s in bold, it should be in your notes!
o We will have vocabulary quizzes each unit that will come from the textbook.
• There is no minimum for the amount of notes you should take, BUT they should be thorough enough for you to comprehend the key points of the section.
• There are 6 themes that run through this course.
