It is commendable that you have chosen to continue your study of Spanish through the AP level. I am very excited for next year’s Spanish AP class. I am very happy that you will be my student, and I hope you enjoy and learn in my class. As you may know, the purpose of this course is to prepare you for the College Board AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam, which will be administered May 2026. The AP Spanish Language Exam is designed to test your skills to see how well they meet the proficiency level that one would expect to find in a third-year college class! The exam will test all the major language skills: reading comprehension, writing skills, speaking ability, and listening comprehension, in addition to cultural knowledge of the Hispanic world. \nTHE PURPOSE OF THESE ASSIGNMENTS IS TO PRACTICE SPANISH DURING THE SUMMER SO THAT YOUR TRANSITION TO SPANISH AP WILL BE SMOOTHER. Do not do them all at once. Spread them out over the summer to expose yourself to practice throughout your break as much as possible. \n1. Informal Writing: \na. Using past tenses, write a 10-sentence paragraph in Spanish telling me about how this summer has been different or the same to when you were a kid (compare and contrast) . Pay attention to the use of the preterit vs. Imperfect tenses. \n2. Reading comprehension: \na. Read “Los derechos humanos. Lectura 1”(attached here) . Read and answer multiple choice comprehension questions. \nb. Search for 2 news articles in [https://www.bbc.com/mundo](https://www.bbc.com/mundo) Read and answer these questions: \n1. ¿Cuáles fueron tus primeros pensamientos cuando leíste sobre este tema? \n2. ¿Qué has aprendido de esto? \n3. ¿Por qué es importante para ti o por qué no es importante? \n4. ¿Qué preguntas tienes aún sobre este tema?? See attached format for this section. \n3. Listening \nYou are expected to watch/listen a minimum of 120 minutes of Spanish (2 hours) . You could watch/listen 4 sessions of 30 minutes (I am attaching 4 journal entries) or you could do 8 sessions of 15 minutes each if you rather do shorter sessions. You can watch/listen Netflix, Hulu, TV, Podcasts, YouTube, etc. Make sure it is set to the Spanish language. You may use English subtitles if needed. Click on the laptop on this page [https://tinyurl.com/EspinosaTIVYHS](https://tinyurl.com/EspinosaTIVYHS) for some links to websites and podcasts. \nSee attached form for the listening log. \nHonor Code: College students are required to abide by an honor code that forbids them from cheating, lying and stealing, both within the academic world and as members of the college community. I expect the same commitment and honor from you, as a member of a college-level course. What this means is that you are expected to complete all assignments on your own, without consulting native-speakers or translation devices of any kind. Your work should represent what you are capable of doing, using as resources your mind, grammar books, or notes and a dictionary such as“word reference” . I do not expect your production of Spanish to be without error at this level. \nTranslation devices are prohibited at all times. You are to do your summer work independently. \nSuccess on the AP Spanish Exam: The AP Spanish Language Exam is a skill-based exam testing your abilities and proficiency in Spanish. It is not a knowledge-based exam like most other AP exams. You will be expected to integrate all four of your skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Familiarize yourself with the AP Spanish Language Exam Format shown below. The AP Spanish Language class is a demanding course. The goal is for you to receive a 3 or above on the exam. I definitely ask you to do the extra mile by listening to music, watching movies, listening to podcasts, and reading magazines, all in Spanish throughout the school year given that you need to improve your proficiency level to an intermediate-high in one school year. \nAP Spanish Agreem","cbCaif8XGKUt5tWZ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaif8XGKUt5tWZ","pdf",4619252,"English","# Informal Writing\n## Past tenses paragraph (preterit vs. imperfect)\n# Reading Comprehension\n## Los derechos humanos.
