|\n| --- |\n| CURRICULUM UPDATE: AP PHYSICS C |\n| Dr. Tim Kaltenecker Board of Education\u003Cbr>Deputy Superintendent March 5, 2024 |\n\nCOLLEGE BOARD CHANGES TO AP PHYSICS \nThe College Board periodically reviews course frameworks to ensure alignment with introductory college courses. \nReviewed and revised the curriculum for AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2. \nRevised the AP exams for AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2. \nReviewed and revised the curriculum for AP Physics C: Mechanics and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism. \nReviewed and revised the exams for AP Physics C: Mechanics and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism. \nFormat and design consistent across all four exams \nNew question types \nLonger exams \n- 90 min / M.C. \n- 90 min / free-response \nNew Physics C exams will be administered in spring 2025. \nAs a result of these changes, the science department made adjustments to theAP Physics C curriculum and AP exam requirements for 2024-2025. \nBYRAM HILLS STUDY \nOver the past three years, Ms. Deb Cayea and the physics teachers engaged in the following actions to study the impact of these changes: \n● Reviewed the College Board’s new curriculum frameworks and assessment designs for each new AP physics course. \n● Conducted a gap analysis with our current curriculum. \n● Collaborated with Mr. Chris Walsh, Ms. Kristina Wilson (guidance chairperson), and Ms. Lisa Pellegrino (mathematics chairperson) to study and respond to the impact on student offerings, college expectations, and the mathematics expectations. \n○ Feedback from 10 tier 1 universities’ admissions offices noted that their engineering departments do not require a specific AP course. \nFrom MIT: “We do not have firm requirements for coursework…we encourage students to pursue coursework that will serve as a strong academic foundation.” \n○ Colleges award credit for AP Physics C (based on exam score), but no colleges reported giving credit for AP Physics 1 or 2. \n● Developed a plan to revise the Physics C curriculum. \nBYRAM HILLS PHYSICS PATHWAYS \n\n| Physics Concepts | Project-based physics course. |\n| --- | --- |\n\n| Physics | Regents-level physics. |\n| --- | --- |\n\n| Physics A | Advanced physics; students can opt to take the AP Physics 1 exam. |\n| --- | --- |\n\n| AP Physics Mechanics | C: Students take the AP Physics C: Mechanics exam. |\n| --- | --- |\n| Students will have access to a Google Classroom to independently study AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism should they opt to take the E/MAP exam. |
