This course will meet on a modified block schedule. 3 days a week we will have a 50-minute class period. Twice a week this course will meet for 80 minutes. The following will be the schedule used for AP Chemistry Students: \nMon/Wed Block Tues/Thur Block \nPeriod 2 Chemistry Students Period 3 Chemistry Students \n1st Period: (M-F) 8:20-9:10 1st Period: (M-F) 8:20-9:10 \n2nd Period: (M,W) 9:15-10:35 2nd Period: (M-F) 9:15-10:05 (T, Th, F) 9:15-10:05 Ad-Room: (M, W) 10:10-10:35 \nAd-Room: (T, Th) 10:10-10:35 3rd Period: (M, W) 10:40-11:30 3rd Period: Back on Schedule (T, Th) 10:10-11:30 \n4th Period: Back on Schedule \n*Friday follow normal schedule \nPeriod 5 Chemistry Students \n1st Period: (M-F) 8:20-9:10 \n2nd Period: (M-F) 9:15-10:05 \nAd Room: (M-F) 10:10-10:35 \n3rd Period : (M-F) 10:40-11:30 \n4th/5th Period: (M,W,F) 12:30-1:25 \n(T,Th) 12:00 – 1:25 \n6th Period: Back on Schedule \nLab activities are an integral part of this course. We will average a minimum of 2 hours per week spent in the Lab. Labs will be done in groups of 2-3 students and many will be inquiry based lab activities. \nTextbook: \nBrown, LeMay, and Bursten: Chemistry the Central Science, 9th Edition, Prentice Hall, 2003. \nStudent Solutions Manual: \nWilson, R: Solutions To Exercises Chemistry the Central Science, 9th Edition, Prentice Hall, 2003. \nLab Manuals: \nRandall, J: Advanced Chemistry with Vernier, First Edition, Vernier Software & Technology, 2004. \nWaterman, Thompson: Small-Scale Chemistry Lab Manual, Addison-Wesley Publishing Company, 1993. \nNelson, Kemp: Laboratory Experiments Chemistry The Central Science, Prentice Hall, 2003. \nCourse Design: \nThe Advanced Placement Program in Chemistry consists of first year college level chemistry as prescribed by the College Board. The course is centered around the following topics: stoichiometry, structure of matter, atomic and molecular theory, periodic table, chemical bonding, kinetic theory of gases, chemical equilibria, chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, acids and bases, oxidation-reduction, electrochemistry, nuclear, and organic nomenclature. Other topics are related to those listed above. Technology will be incorporated into the course through the use of the mobile computer lab, CBL’s, TI Interactive, Smart Board􀀁 applications, and as well as other various applications of technology. As we develop, illustrate, and extend this conceptual core, we will see the interplay of nature and human creativity in a variety of chemical processes and materials. \nSchedule: \nThe following schedule will provide an overview of the topics covered in this course. Every two weeks a detailed assignment sheet will be given to the student. This will include assignments and the dates of each lab, quiz, and test. \nFIRST SEMSTER \n\n| Chapter | Topics | Time Spent |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| 1 | Matter, Measurement, Sig Figs, Dimensional Analysis | 5 days |\n| 2 | Atomic Theory, Periodic Table, Nomeclature, Organic | 6 days |\n| 3 | Stoichiometry, The Mole, Empirical/Molecular Formulas | 6 days |\n| 4 | Concentrations, Aqueous reactions, Solution Stoichiometry | 9 days |\n| 5 | Thermochemistry, Hess’s law, Enthalpies of formation | 8 days |\n| 6 | Electronic Structure, Quantum Mechanics, Atomic Orbitals, Electron Configurations, Periodicity | 7 days |\n| | END OF FIRST QUARTER | |\n| 7 | History of Periodic Table, Periodicity | 5 days |\n| 8 | Chemical Bonding, Lewis Structures, Ionic Bonding, | 8 days |\n\n\n| | Enthalpy of Reaction | |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| 9 | Molecular Geometry, VSEPR Theory, Hybrid Orbitals, Polarity | 8 days |\n| 10 | Gases, Gas Laws, Kinetic Molecular Theory | 8 days |\n| 11 | Intermolecular Forces, Liquids, Solids, Phase Diagram | 6 days |\n| | SEMSTER TEST/REVIEW |","cbCaihprMMU2JOeE","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaihprMMU2JOeE","pdf",33805,"English","# Course Overview\n## Schedule (Modified Block)\n## Lab Activities\n## Textbooks and Lab Manuals\n## Course Design and Topics\n# Two-Quarter/Two-Semester Topic Schedule\n## First Semester / First Quarter\n## Second Semester / Third Quarter\n## Semester Test and Review","[{\"question\":\"How often does AP Chemistry meet and how is the modified block schedule structured?\",\"answer\":\"The course meets 3 days per week for 50 minutes, and twice per week for 80 minutes.
