This course meets 5 times per week for a double period. A total of 84 minutes per day is spent on AP chemistry. Little time Is spent on lecture as it is my philosophy that learning is active not passive. Students are engaged in hands-on laboratory work, integrated throughout the course that accounts for more than 25% of the class time. Emphasis is placed on depth of understanding a topic, rather than breath of topics. This course is structured around the six big ideas from the AP Chemistry curriculum framework provided by the College Board. A special emphasis will be placed on the seven science practices, which capture important aspects of the work that scientists engage in, with 117 learning objectives that combine content with inquiry and reasoning skills. AP Chemistry is open to all students that have successfully completed a year of Regents Chemistry who wish to take part in a rigorous and academically challenging course. This AP chemistry course will require significant effort for maximum success. \nLaboratory Component: \nThis is a hands-on, laboratory course, in which students are expected to utilize collected data to decipher chemistry problems.
