There are a lot of amazing and beautiful math concepts that you will learn throughout this course-so much in fact that we need to complete the first unit before the first day of school if we are going to get through it all in time! \nYou are responsible for knowing how to do each type of problem in this packet for the start of the school year. Read through the entire packet early, especially the last page, so you can accurately judge how much time you’re going to need to complete this entire assignment. Numbers 1-5 are a review of Algebra/ Pre-Calculus concepts that you have already learned and must be extremely comfortable with. After reviewing those prerequisite topics, you must complete item \\#6 , which is the first unit in AP Calculus titled ‘Limits and Continuity’! It’s ablend of limit concepts you’ve already learned, along with a couple of other basic calculus concepts you haven’t formally learned yet. Expect to have your first exam on this summer assignment ( including Unit 1) during the first week of classes to make sure you did the summer work and are ready for this course. There will be very little, if any, class time devoted to this summer assignment, so if you have questions on any of these problems, you are expected to get them answered during the summer. You should plan to start this summer assignment early in the summer- if you wait until August you risk starting the year off on the wrong foot. You may use any resource available to you, including your classmates and myself, to help you. You’re encouraged/expected to use YouTube/ Khan Academy/etc. to help you complete any types of questions you need help with. My email is[mgorman@doaneacademy.org](mgorman@doaneacademy.org) if you have any questions for me. \nNote: The earlier in the summer you email me for help, the better chance you have of \ngetting a timely response (i.e. don’t wait until the last week of summer to start asking questions!) Relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy your summer! \nBest, \nMr. Gorman \n1. Simplify the following expressions without a calculator. Use logarithm properties. \na. 􀕔􀕖(􀕍4) b. 􀕔􀕗􀕏 (1) and 􀕔􀕖(1) c. 􀕔􀕖(5) − 􀕔􀕖(10) + 􀕔􀕖(2) \nd. 􀕔􀕖 (~~ ~~􀕍12~~ ~~) \ne. 􀕔􀕖(􀕍2􀕠+7) + 􀕔􀕖(~~ ~~1􀕍􀕠~~ ~~) \n2. Find the equation of a line. \na. Find the equation of a line passing through the point (-3 ,5) that is perpendicular to the line 􀕡 = ~~ ~~35~~ ~~􀕠 − 17. \n3. Know all of the Unit Circle values quickly from memory, (and now the values of the six trigonometric functions evaluated at the standard angles) . For example, \n􀕛􀕑􀕖(~~ ~~π4~~ ~~), 􀕛􀕑􀕖(~~ ~~5π6~~ ~~), 􀕋􀕗􀕛 (~~ ~~113π~~ ~~), 􀕜􀕉􀕖(~~ ~~5π4~~ ~~), 􀕛􀕑􀕖( − ~~ ~~π2~~ ~~), 􀕍􀕜􀕋 ... \n4. Solve Trigonometric Equations for 0 ≤ 􀕠 \u003C 2π . \na. 2􀕋􀕗􀕛(􀕠) = 3 b. 4􀕛􀕑􀕖2 (􀕠) = 3 \n5. Graph Circles/Parts of Circles Given Their Standard Form (without a graphing utility) \na. (􀕠 − 3)2 + 􀕡2 = 5 b. 􀕡 = 16 􀕠 \n6. Beginning on July 1st and using your Doane Academy account, login and complete the‘Limits and Continuity-Unit 1’ unit on AP Classroom. Check your Doane email for communication from me regarding how to join our AP Classroom. This email will be sent out on July 1st or 2nd-as soon as College Board allows me to create a class section for the 24/25 school year. \nA lot of the topics below are a review of our final unit on Limits from Pre-Calculus, but you will see examples of how these topics will be assessed on the AP Exam and be exposed to a few new topics as well. This covers the first unit in AP Calculus, and must be mastered this summer if you are to complete all of AP Calculus BC before the APExam in May. If you have decided to take this class, you must take this assignment seriously and have it understood and completed by the first day of school! \nUnit 1 is broken into 16 subtopics.
