The AP Calculus AB course is structured around three big ideas which include limits, derivatives, and integrals and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. AP Calculus BC explores these ideas in additional contexts and includes the study of series. AP Calculus AB is typically the equivalent to one college semester of Calculus while AP Calculus BC is usually equivalent to the first two semesters of College Calculus. Pre-requisite concepts and skills from all prior math courses are crucial for understanding Calculus. \nEnrolled students are expected to take the Advanced Placement (AP) examination in May. The AP Calculus AB/BC Exam includes a 1 hour and 45 minute multiple-choice section that accounts for half of the exam and a 1 hour and 30 minute free-response section made up of two sections that accounts for the other half of the exam grade. The tests are scored by the College Board and ETS with final scores available to download in early July. Scores range from 1 to 5, with 3 or better considered as “passing”, and therefore eligible to receive college credit in many universities and colleges. \nAP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC are designed to be taught at the college level. Consequently, some students may initially find the pace and workload difficult. To prepare for this transition, class expectations will be provided to students at the beginning of the school year. \nThere is a mandatory summer assignment required for all students enrolled in AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC. The directions and format for the assignment are given with the assignment information in a separate document. The required summer reading assignment can also be found on the PMSD website at: [https://www.pmsd.org/Page/1848](https://www.pmsd.org/Page/1848. The)[. The](https://www.pmsd.org/Page/1848. Please allow her a few days to respond, as she may not be checking her email every day. All responses to the assignment must be submitted using the Google Form found here: [https://forms.gle/UijPGGJBNsGeKK8C6](https://forms.gle/UijPGGJBNsGeKK8C6) . \nThis summer assignment will be worth 10% of your first marking period grade and is due by Friday, September 16, 2022. A test on the material covered in the summer assignment will be given after the due date. \nSincerely, \nAmy Catalano \nAmy Catalano \nDirector of Curriculum, Instruction and Federal Programs: Math and Science Pocono Mountain School District","cbCaifTxYg6OrCWF","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaifTxYg6OrCWF","pdf",117198,"English","# Advanced Placement Calculus AB/BC Overview\n# AP Exam Expectations\n# Summer Assignment Requirements\n## Due Date and Grading\n## Submission Method and Support","[{\"question\":\"What are the main topics covered in AP Calculus AB and BC?\",\"answer\":\"AP Calculus AB focuses on limits, derivatives, integrals, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
