The course will explore concepts such as functions, limits, continuity, derivatives and their applications, and integration and their applications. The course will cover approximately 7 chapters as outlined in the text book “Calculus: Concepts and Contexts; Single Variable” by James Stewart. Students will test their knowledge at the end of the course by practicing test questions in the Advanced Placement Preparation Books for AP Calculus provided by D&S Marketing Systems, Inc. In addition, students will have the use of a graphing calculator throughout the course to use as a visual aid to help them understand the concepts of Calculus. My hope is that students will gain a strong foundation for mathematics and to be able to apply this knowledge in the future. I also hope that students will obtain an appreciation for mathematics and enjoy learning itas much as I enjoy teaching it. \nCourse Outline \nChapter 1 Functions \n4 weeks \n1. Functions in General \n2. Types of Functions \n3. Parametric Equations \n4. Exponential Functions \n5. Logarithmic Functions \n6. Regression Lines \nGraphing calculator exercises using proper windows, scales, parameters, and regression lines will be implemented. \nChapter 2 Limits and Derivatives \n5 weeks \n1. Tangent Lines \n2. Limits \n3. The Laws of Limits \n4. Continuity \n5. Limits involving Infinity \n6. Rates of Change \n7. Derivatives \n8. Derivative as a Function \n9. Linear Approximation \n10. Graphs of Derivatives \nGraphing calculator exercises using tangent lines, tables and limits, along with derivatives of functions will be explored. \nChapter 3 Differentiation Rules \n5 weeks \n1. Derivatives of Functions \n2. The Product and Quotient Rule \n3. Derivatives Used in Physics \n4. Derivatives of Trigonometric Functions \n5. The Chain Rule \n6. Implicit Differentiation \n7. Derivatives of Logarithmic Functions \n8. Differentials \nChapter 4 Applications Of Differentiation \n5 weeks \n1. Related Rates \n2. Max. and Min. Values \n3. First and Second Derivative Tests \n4. Graphing Derivatives \n5. L’Hospital’s Rule \n6. Optimization Problems \n7. Cost Functions \n8. Newton’s Method \n9. Antiderivatives \nGraphing calculator exercises will be used to show max. and min. values, concavity, inflection points, and comparison of functions and their derivatives. \nChapter 5 Integrals \n5 weeks \n1. Areas Under Curves \n2. The Definite Integral \n3. Evaluating Integrals \n4. The Fundamental Theorem Of Calculus \n5. Substitution Rule \n6. Integration by Parts \n7. Integration using Tables \n8. Trapezoidal and Simpson’s Rule \n9. Improper Integrals \nGraphing calculator exercises will be used to show summation of rectangles, The Riemann sum, and integration. \nChapter 6 Applications of Integration \n3 weeks \n1. Areas Between Curves \n2. Volumes \n3. Average Value \nTo help show volumes, I will use several wood and plastic models that students can actually hold and take apart to see the rings and washers we would use to calculate the volume of a solid. \nChapter 7 Differential Equations \n2 weeks \n1. Population Growth \n2. Slope Fields \n3. Growth and Decay Functions \nAP Exam Practice Booklet \n2 weeks \nStudents will use the AP Preparation booklet and practice multiple choice and open ended questions. After reviewing the practice problems, students will take a practice timed exam, similar to the AP exam, prior to the date of the actual AP Calculus exam. \nTeaching Strategies and Evaluations \nStudents are expected to retain and apply topics from Elementary Functions. I do review some concepts. However, it is not long before students are introduced to new topics such as parametric equations and regression lines. Students will also be using the graphing calculator as a visual aid. I will show them how to set new parameters and how to graph \nregression lines (c","cbCaitX7XUK55Uht","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitX7XUK55Uht","pdf",21372,"English","# Course Overview\n# Course Outline\n## Chapter 1 Functions\n## Chapter 2 Limits and Derivatives\n## Chapter 3 Differentiation Rules\n## Chapter 4 Applications of Differentiation\n## Chapter 5 Integrals\n## Chapter 6 Applications of Integration\n## Chapter 7 Differential Equations\n# AP Exam Practice Booklet\n# Teaching Strategies and Evaluations","[{\"question\":\"What topics are covered in AP Calculus AB?\",\"answer\":\"The course covers functions, limits, continuity, derivatives and their applications, and integration and its applications, with emphasis on both theory and problem-solving.\"},{\"question\":\"How is the graphing calculator used during the course?\",\"answer\":\"Students use a graphing calculator throughout to visualize concepts and practice tasks such as setting windows and parameters, exploring tangent lines, and studying regression and integration-related visuals.\"},{\"question\":\"How will students be assessed before the AP exam?\",\"answer\":\"Assessment includes chapter tests at the end of each chapter, quizzes at least once per week, and AP exam practice with multiple-choice and open-ended questions plus a practice timed exam.\"}]","AP Calculus AB - Syllabus - Course Overview and Chapter Outline | PDF",1790764488,13]
