After showing themselves to be qualified on the AP Examination, some students, as college freshman, are permitted to undertake upper-level courses in biology or to register for courses for which biology is a prerequisite. Other students may have fulfilled a basic requirement for a laboratory-science course and will be able to undertake other courses to pursue their majors. \nThe AP Biology course is designed to be taken by students after the successful completion of the first course of high school biology, as well as a one-year course of high school chemistry. It aims to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the rapidly changing science of biology. \nDigital Learning Platforms: \nWe will utilize 3 digital learning platforms this year. \n1. We will utilize Canvas for the distribution of course materials and submission of student’s work. \n2. We will utilize MyAP classroom through College Board to directly interact with curriculum written by those who will be writing the AP Exam at the end of the year. This platform will house AP Daily videos for you to view on AP Concepts (optional), and Progress Checks for each unit (also optional but completion required to be eligible for the curve on the exam) . \n3. We will utilize Pearson + app from Pearson for study aids and the e-text from Pearson (please make sure you have downloaded the app). The text will be used to answer Reading guides which are optional but completion is required to be eligible for the exam curve. \nParents and students needing training and support for using Canvas can find more help and information at [https://tec21.org/](https://tec21.org/) \nCommunication: \n● Canvas Announcements \n* I will post announcements through Canvas on a regular basis. Please make sure you have Canvas notifications on to receive all other important announcements. \n● Student Square \n* This is the same platform as Parent square. Announcements of due dates/ tests dates will be sent out via Parent/Student square. \nTextbooks, Lab Manuals, and Resources: \n● Urry, Lisa A., et al., Campbell Biology in Focus, 3rd Edition. Pearson, 2020 (Required & Provided) \n● College Board AP Biology Investigative Lab Manual, revised 2012 (Required & Provided) \n● 2 notebooks-1 Graph ruled notebook that will be used for FRQs and Lab reports. This notebook will remain in class. The second will be used for notes and diagramming. (Required) \nCourse Organization: \nThis course is structured around the four Big Ideas and multiple Science Practices identified in the Curriculum Framework. All essential knowledge will be taught and all learning objectives will be met through this curriculum (see the College Board AP Biology Course Framework for a complete list) . The course is separated into 8 units as listed below. \nCourse at a Glance \nBig Ideas \nThe Big Ideas are interrelated and will not be taught in isolation. The course will connect the Enduring Understandings from one Big Idea with those of the others wherever practical. By keeping the Big Ideas in mind as we cover each unit it will become apparent that Biology, as with most sciences, is a beautiful complexity of interrelated themes. \nThe Four Big Ideas: \n● Big Idea 1: EVOLUTION (EVO): The process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life. \n● Big Idea 2: ENERGETICS (ENE): Biological systems use energy and molecular building blocks to grow, reproduce, and maintain dynamic homeostasis. \n● Big Idea 3: INFORMATION STORAGE AND TRANSMISSION (IST): Living systems store, retrieve, transmit, and respond to information essential to life processes. \n● Big Idea 4: SYSTEMS INTERACTIONS (SYI): Biological systems interact and these systems and their interactions exhib","cbCaifmoivnr3CKU","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaifmoivnr3CKU","pdf",554969,"English","# Introduction\n# Digital Learning Platforms\n# Communication\n# Textbooks, Lab Manuals, and Resources\n# Course Organization\n## Big Ideas\n## Science Practices\n## Units and AP Exam Weightings","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of the AP Biology course described in the syllabus?\",\"answer\":\"The course is designed to be equivalent to a college-level introductory biology class, aiming to provide conceptual frameworks, factual knowledge, and analytical skills for critically engaging with rapidly changing biology.\"},{\"question\":\"Which digital learning platforms will be used during the course?\",\"answer\":\"Canvas is used for distributing materials and submitting student work.
