\nThe most important issue facing Connec- \nticut librarians in the next two years ishow to manage the enormous changesthat technology is bringing inside our in-stitutions,between our institutions, andwith information and entertainmentsources outside our institutions,to en-sure that our traditional goals of qualityand equality of service are maintained.CLA should identify and articulate in itspublications issues which need our atten-tion,such as govenance, financing andquality of access in linked library sys-tems.CLA should be an advocate in legis-lative,corporate and educational arenasfor librarians as they explain and meettheir changing needs.CLA should bringtogether librarians, public and corporatedecision-makers and library users fromdifferent areas to learn about each others'differing perspectives.CLA should insiston the primary importance of people, andhelp librarians and their publics achieve acommon vision of what we should, notmerely what we can,do with technology. \nGail Nachin holds an MLS from SouthernConnecticut State University and is direc-tor of the Library at Paier College of ArtShe has been an active member of CLAsince 1975 and has served on the Editori-al Board of Connecticut Libraries and ashead of the Extension/Special PatronsServices Section. She has also been amember of AVAIL,Services to StateAgencies and Institutions. \nWhat do you think will be the most im-portant issue facing Connecticut librari-ans in the next two years and how shouldCLA respond to or address this issue? \nThe issue foremost in my mind is the edu-cation of future Connecticut librarians. This includes students at SCSU andlibrary support staff wanting to moveahead in their field. \nConnecticut libraries have always beenable to flourish with even the most mini-mal resources. This is chiefly becauss ofthe wealth of talented and creative li-brary directors and staff with which wehave been gifted.Quoting myself, alibrary with the finest materials andequipment is akin to a well stocked lard-er.Without a good crew of cooks, all islost. \nWe have an opportunity as a well inform-ed,vital organization,to lend our recom-mendations,wisdom,and support to thenew administration of the School ofLibrary Science at SCSU.In fact,we havea direct invitation from the school to doso.Because of the diversity of librariesrepresented by the members of theassociation,we have the unique abilityto interpret the educational needs of li-brarians and students to meet the de-mands of future librarianship. \nWe don't want to be lost in the face ofthe rapidly multiplying new technologiesand resources.On-line cataloging,data-base searching, networking, and resourcesharing are wonderful tools that wil en-rich library service for everyone and pro-vide librarians with a sense of controlov","cbCaia9KyWyn3Enx","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaia9KyWyn3Enx","pdf",3039543,"English","# Candidates for Vice President/President Elect\n## Candidate profiles: Elizabeth Kirkpatrick\n## Annual CLA Election: Candidate Profiles (questions and responses)\n## Candidate profiles: Gail Nachin\n## Opinion","[{\"question\":\"What election period and voting timeline does the document describe?\",\"answer\":\"The CLA office terms are for 1985/1986.
