the sidewalk. Not alongsidecyclists and motorists, noisy school buses andchatting children. \nAnna took, the walking path along theridge, that led to a footpath down the hillside, that led to the many trails through the trees ofTwelve Mile Coulee. She walked beside thebabbling creek where gentle deer drank andsparrows and finches fluttered in the trees. \n☆ \nAnna came to the coulee to smell theforest:the earthiness of dew-drenched moss, the sweet scent of sticky spruce sap,and themustiness of sun-baked leaves. She came tocatch a glimpse of a shy coyote or a red-tailedhawk.She came to feel her feet on the softearth and her fingertips tracing the patternsetched in the tree bark by time and weather. Most of all,Anna came to the coulee to seeher favorite tree. \nEach morning, she left her house early soshe could take the long route to school andspend time with the most magnificent tree inthe coulee. This was no ordinary tree.Thistree was spectacular. \nIt wasn't the tallest tree in the coulee.Itsleaves didn't change color in fall.It didn'tbloom in spring. But there was somethingmagical about this tree.To Anna,it wasperfect and she was sure that each morningher favorite tree perked up when she neared. \nThis tree was an evergreen.Anna liked thatname, evergreen, because it meant that thetree would be forever green. And the greenof that tree made Anna feel happy. \n☆ \nEvery day,Anna visited the tree no matterthe weather. If the sky was grey and cloudyor filled with rain,Anna could count on herevergreen friend to freshen her spirits.Seeingthe tree made her day brighter and better. \n\"How do you do today,my friend?\"Annabowed to the great tree. \nAnna was always careful not to linger toolong. She wouldn't want to be late for school.Although,a clever crow or chatty squirrelusually nudged her along if time was tight. \nOne day,on Anna's morning walk toschool, she noticed something different abouther green friend. \n“What's this?”Anna leaned under theevergreen's thick, sturdy branches to take acloser look.A bright orange, plastic ribbonwas tied tightly around the wide, rough trunkof the tree. \n\"Who put this here?\"asked Anna aloud. \nAnna thought that it wasn't a particularlypretty ribbon;it didn'tmake the tree look better. She decided the tree looked nicer without it,so she set her backpack on the ground andcrawled under the tree to remove the ribbon. \nShe worked and worked on the large knot. She fished a pencil from her backpack ","cbCaio81ROhDGvfb","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaio81ROhDGvfb","pdf",1834683,42,"English","# Anna and the Christmas
