Cassowaries are large, shy, forest birds that cannot fly; they eat fruits and other foods, swim well, and can jump about 1.5 metres. The Raggiana bird of paradise is an omnivore with long tail feathers, long breeding season, and courtship dancing. Eastern long-beaked echidnas forage at night using a long tube-like beak, while tree kangaroos climb and eat plants, with young raised in pouches.","Animals in Papua New Guinea \nEnglish \nCassowary \nCassowaries are very large birds that cannot fly. They are shy and live deep in the forest. What does a cassowary eat? It mostly eats fruits, but it can also eat mushrooms, insects and small animals like rats. We call this kind of animal an omnivore. \nCassowaries are very good swimmers, jumpersand runners. From a stand-still they can jump 1.5 metres high. They can run quickly, up to 50 kilometres per hour. \nOmnivore \nAn animal that eats both meat and plants \nIncubate \nTo keep warm until time to hatch \nDid you know? \nThese three cassowaries live in Papua New Guinea. \nThe cassowary is considered the world's most dangerous bird. \nGolden neck cassowary \nSouthern cassowary Dwarf cassowary \nRaggiana Bird of Paradise \nThe male Raggiana bird of paradise is famous for its beautiful tail feathers. These feathers grow up to 35 centimetres long. The Raggiana bird of paradise is an omnivore. It eats fruits and berries, as well as insects, frogs and small reptiles. It lives in the forests of Papua New Guinea. The breeding season is long. It starts in April and ends in December. Many males come together at one place in the forest. There they dance on a branch. It lives deep in the forest. It comes out at night to find food, and it moves very slowly. \nTo eat, the echidna uses its “beak” that looks like a long tube sticking out from its face. This beak can feel things move under the ground. With its beak the echidna can reach in between hard-to-reach places. There it finds insects, larvae and ticks. Its body length is 60-100 centimetres. \nTo defend itself it will use its spines and roll up like a ball. \nBetween the spines grows fur. \nThe eastern long-beaked echidna has 5 claws. \nTree Kangaroo \nThe tree kangaroo is a marsupial because it carries its baby in a pouch. It looks somewhat like the Australian kangaroo, but there is a big difference. The tree kangaroo can climb trees, and it can’t hop like the Australian kangaroo. The tree kangaroo eats plants, leaves, ferns, moss, and tree bark. It also eats flowers, such as orchids. We call this kind of animal an herbivore. \nThe tree kangaroo does not move quickly on land It likes to be up in the trees, where it can \nMarsupial \nA group of animals that carry their young in their pouch \nHerbivore \nAn animal that eats only plants, flowers and fruits. \nHuon tree kangaroo \nGoodfellows tree kangaroo \nDid you know? \nThe long tail helps them to balance when they jump from tree to tree. \nThe Huon tree kangaroo is the best tree climber and has more strength in its muscles than anyother. \nPouch with joey","cbCaifkO3dPY6vSs","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaifkO3dPY6vSs","pdf",2085417,6,1,23,"English","en",105,"# Cassowary\n## Diet and movement\n# Omnivores and key terms\n# Raggiana bird of paradise\n## Tail feathers and breeding season\n# Eastern long-beaked echidna\n## Night feeding and defense\n# Tree kangaroo\n## Pouch, climbing, and diet","[{\"question\":\"What do cassowaries eat in Papua New Guinea?\",\"answer\":\"Cassowaries mostly eat fruits, but they can also eat mushrooms, insects, and small animals like rats.\"},{\"question\":\"When does the Raggiana bird of paradise breeding season occur?\",\"answer\":\"The breeding season starts in April and ends in December.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the eastern long-beaked echidna find food and defend itself?\",\"answer\":\"It comes out at night to forage and uses its long tube-like beak to feel for movement under the ground.
