She hadn’t seen her

mother for well over a month because her stepfather had been home. They only met when her stepfather was out on the road for his job as a truck driver. Glancing at her phone she frowned. Her mother was never on time. She used to worry about it, but finally realized that was just the way her mom was.

Taking a drink of her coffee she looked out the window ignoring the other customers who were quietly talking at their own tables. It was hard for her to see others enjoying time together. She knew that was selfish on her part, but she couldn’t help it. Her life was in such disarray that almost anything made her sad. It sucked. She hated it. Angelina was working through her issues, but some days it was harder than others and today was one of her bad days.

It had been three weeks since she had walked away from her life with Adam. She missed him so damn much it practically tore her apart. He texted her every night to make sure she was okay, asked if she needed anything and she would only reply that she was fine. That was it, nothing more. She made herself turn off her phone after that afraid she would cave and beg him for forgiveness. Anger burned deep inside her. Why in the hell hadn’t he done that before she walked out of his life. Why do it now? Dammit and damn him. Was it enough? No, it wasn’t, but it was something.

“No.” She whispered to herself, even shook her head. It was not enough, and she deserved more. She repeated that thought in her head over and over

again.

“Sorry I’m late.” Her mother ’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

Angelina looked at her mother who scooted into the booth. She looked thinner than the last time she had seen her. Her hair was dyed an inky black making her already pale complexion ghostly. “You dyed your hair.”Angelina observed out loud.

Her hand went to her hair self-consciously after she sat her bag on the table.“Dan prefers brunettes.”

Angelina rolled her eyes at that with a snort. Her mother had beautiful blonde hair with light streaks of grey when not colored. Maggie Adams had been a beautiful woman. You could still see her beauty at times, but the hard life she had lived showed through more often than not. She also noticed the huge black sunglasses her mother was wearing and knew the reason. It was an overcast November day, no sun in sight, and being inside her mother didn’t even attempt to remove the sunglasses that were way too big for her face.

“Do you like it?” Her mother asked after ordering a coffee from the waitress.

“It’s okay, but I like your natural color.” Angelina replied honestly, then added with a frown.“How bad was it this time?”

Maggie frowned shifting uncomfortably.“How bad was what?”

“You are wearing sunglasses on a cloudy day inside a restaurant.” Angelina said hating having this conversation which seemed to be a repeat from many conversations she’d had with her mother.

Angelina knew her mother ’s habits so well. For instance, she was fidgeting with the napkin and tearing little pieces off with one hand which wa
","cbCaitXYOFFXkVPS","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitXYOFFXkVPS","pdf",778880,3,100,"English","en",105,"# Chapter 1
## Angelina at the coffee shop
## Her mother’s late arrival and sunglasses
## Recurring mother-daughter conflict
## Angelina’s relationship history and unresolved anger
## Attempted conversation and emotional boundaries","[{"question":"Why is Angelina waiting in the coffee shop instead of seeing her mother at home?","answer":"Angelina meets her mother in a coffee shop because her stepfather is often away driving for work.
