It outlines symptom classification into mentals, generals, and particulars, then presents a more practical division into symptoms that characterize the disease versus symptoms that reflect the individual patient within that case. The discussion contrasts basic/pathognomonic symptoms used for diagnosis with determinative/uncommon/discriminative characteristic symptoms that individualize the prescription, often ignored by allopathic physicians. SYMPTOMS\n\nNext in importance to case-taking or perhaps even greaterthan that,is the proper interpretation and evaluation of symp-toms.Case taking merely affords us a mass of data, some usefuland some useless, some of greater value, some of less valueboth from the diagnostic and from the therapeutic points ofview, out of which must emerge thę characteristic symptom-totality,which alone will lead us to the indicated remedy—the similimum. With a certain amount of experience andpatience,case-taking can be perfected and mastered to someextent but analysis and evaluation of symptoms will prove tobe a continually challenging job requiring constant alertnessand care on the part of the physician. It can be said that thegreatest prescribęrs have been those who have been very suc-cessful in properly evaluating the symptoms. \nClassification:Classification of the symptoms into vari-ous groups is called analysis. In analysis we may classify thesymptoms into Mentals,Generals and Particulars. \nA different but more practical and useful method of classi-fication is to divide the symptoms into two major groups, viz.:一 \n(1)Symptoms which characterise the disease that thepatient is suffering from, that is the symptoms one would ex-pect in that particular disease, and \n(2)Symptoms which do not actually belong to the sphereof that disease but yet are found in that particular patient andtherefore form part of the symptom-picture of that particularcase. \nIf the totality of all the symptoms of a case are coveredby a single remedy, then there is practically no difficulty inchoosing the remedy. But quite often such is not the case.Acertain number of symptoms may be covered by one particu-lar remedy and certain other number of symptoms by anotherremedy. In such a case we are called upon to evaluate thesymptoms and select the more important ones upon which weshould base a prescription. It is in such cases that this distinc-tion helps us. \nThe former symptoms which are called the Basic,Com-mon or Pathognomonic symptoms, symptoms characterisingthe disease, help us to make a diagnosis. The latter, called theDeterminative,Uncommon,Discriminative,Non-pathognomo-nic or Characteristic symptoms do not contribute to the mak-ing of the diagnosis. They do not form part of the disease-pic-ture and therefore they reflect the individual reactions of thepatient and so are characteristic of the patient. These symptomsaid us more in choosing the remedy. These symptoms, whichare usual","cbCaiitNH66wsxiH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiitNH66wsxiH","pdf",1815612,24,"English","# Analysis and
