Father and son would smoke a nargilehand share a pleasant conversation. But over time, as the son became even hastier and much less cautious, the discussions turned into full-blown arguments.  \nAbdel gathered a gang of shabab (juvenile delinquents), and put together an army of fifty of these hooligans. Under his command, the gang carried out raids all over the country, and after each raid the burglars would return to Yericho bearing all their loot. The stolen treasures were added to the Abu Salal family’s secret stash of treasures, which was divided among twenty safes hidden in a network of tunnels on the outskirts of Yericho.  \nAbdel Abu Salal’s reputation as a thief spread throughout Eretz Yisrael, and his father became concerned. At the time, the country was ruled by the British, who generally let the Arabs do as they pleased, but within reason. Abdel’s extreme behavior demanded a response from the British police, and his father was afraid of that response.  \nNow the “nargileh discussions,” which had long since turned into “nargileh arguments,” became fiercer and turned into full-blown fights, with yelling, screaming, and cursing.
