You will also be introduced to the pen tool and a function that allows you to edit your hand drawn sketches. \nCourse designed and created by Charlotte Ashley \n [charlotteashleydesign@gmail.com](charlotteashleydesign@gmail.com) @designbychar_ \nAn Introduction to Illustrator \nCreating A Document & Understanding Artboards \nStep 1. \nOpen up Illustrator. In the dialogue box that appears select ‘Create New’. \nStep 2. \nThe options along the top state if you are designing for ‘Print’,‘Web’ \nThis will bring up the dialogue box below. Read the notes to get an understanding of what each section means and how it affects the document you are creating. \nor ‘Mobile’. Make sure you have‘Print’ selected then standard paper sizes will be listed as thumbnails underneath. \nHere is the size of the artboard you are going to create. This is set at standard letter size with portrait orientation. Don’t worry about this too much as you can change it ata later stage. \nHere you can dictate how many artboards you would like. Don’t worry about this at this stage as you can add more once your document is open. \nJust like InDesign you can add bleed to your artboards. This is only important if you are sending your work straight to printers. \nDon’t worry about this at this stage, but feel free to email me \nany questions about this. \nStep 3. \nNow your document has opened. Note the white space in the middle is called your artboard. You should use this space for all your design work and the surrounding grey space for your rough workings. \nStep 4. \nClick Shift O, this will activate your ‘Artboard Tool’. \nNotice the menu along your top tool bar change. \nSee below for an explanation of the different functions available. \nDrop down menu of preset sizes for artboard. \nCreate anew artboard \nOrientation \nDelete selected \nartboard \nWhere the artboard sits in relation to the first artboard created. \nSize of the artboard \nName of selected artboard \nHaving this selected means that when you move theartboard the contents within it will move as well. \n2 \nAn Introduction to Illustrator \nUnderstanding The Set Up \nWorkspaces \nJust like with InDesign, we need to make sure we are working with the same interface. \nThis time go to Window-Workspace and make sure‘Essentials Classic’ is ticked. Then go to WindowWorkspace again and click ‘Reset Essentials Classic’. This drop down menu works just the same as InDesign, so if you are ever missing a palette you can find it here. \nTip: \nYou can click the top right arrows to expand and collapse your palettes. \nDifferent View Options \nTrim View \nTrim view allows you to view your artwork cropped to the artboard size. This is a more realistic view of how your final artwork will look. To find this go to ViewTrim View and you can click it to turn it on and off. \nArtwork Mode \nWhen working on more complex pieces, it may be useful to just view the outlines of your shapes. To do this hold down Cmd (or Ctrl) Y. To resume back to normal view click Cmd Y (or Ctrl) again. \nGuides and Rulers \nIn the View drop down menu you can also show/hide your rulers and guides. Rulers appear around the outside of your working space and you can create guides by click and dragging on the ruler. \nTrim View \nArtwork Mode On \nNormal View \nArtwork Mode Off (Normal View) \nGuides Rulers \n3 \nAn Introduction to Illustrator \nTools Overview \nSelection Tool V \nFor moving and transforming objects. \nDirect Selection Tool A \nTo select single anchor points of shapes. \nMagic Wand Tool \nPen Tool P \nUsed to create free drawn shapes, see following pages. \nType Tool T \nClick on artboard to start writing text. \nRectangle Tool M \nUsed to draw shapes, see following pages. \nPencil Tool \nRotate Tool \nWidth Tool \nShape Builder Tool \nMesh Tool \nEyedropper Tool I ","cbCaitF7f7gTSlH1","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitF7f7gTSlH1","pdf",1885728,11,"English","# Creating A Document & Understanding Artboards\n## Creating a document\n## Understanding artboards\n## Introducing the artboard tool\n# Understanding The Set Up\n## Workspaces\n## View options (Trim View, Artwork Mode)\n## Guides and rulers\n# Tools Overview\n## Key selection and drawing tools\n## Color and stroke/fill controls\n# Drawing & Aligning Shapes\n## Drawing shapes\n## Aligning and grouping","[{\"question\":\"How do you create a new document in Illustrator and set print options?\",\"answer\":\"Open Illustrator, choose Create New, and select Print to show standard paper sizes.
