My greatgrandmother Frances Burke Roche was a Manhattan heiress who brought her American spirit into the Fermoy clan, which is still deeply felt today, especially as the world marks two hundred and Afty years since American independence from Great Britain. Fanny, as she was known, gave us a Patriot bloodline that dates back to the beginning of the Republic. \u003Cese ancestors were outstanding American heroes, innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders of society. A common denominator among them was their dedication to country and a sense of service to their fellow man, qualities I still admire in my grandfather, Maurice, the fourth Baron Fermoy, whose title I inherited and whose name I proudly carry as my own. Maurice and his twin brother, Francis, served in World War I; Maurice in the US Armyand Francis in the US Navy. I continued this legacy by serving as an officerin the Blues and Royals, a cavalry regiment of the British Army and part of the Household Cavalry, the monarch’s official bodyguard.  \nMaurice went on to become a respected member of Parliament and friend of King George VI.
