The contents highlight parish life and clergy leadership, including a focus on the parish as a community that unites Catholics through the Church as mother and God as father. The issue discusses the parish’s hierarchical structure, juridical organization, and spiritual unity through baptism, culminating in the parish’s liturgical life centered on the single Spirit;each ofyozl, wken he was called, was called in the same lope;with the same Lord, the same faith, the same baptism;with the same God,the same Father, all of us,whois above all things, pervades all tlhings, and lives inall of us.Epistle to the Ephesians,4:4-6 \n# YouR EDITOR SAYS\n\nIf branches had \nthe power to talk as they stand out on their pear tree,it would probably be very instructive for us to listen. They would thrill us,we might well imagine, witheloquent praises of the beauty in community life.Nocreature perhaps is so completely dedicated to loveof neighbor as one branch of a pear tree is dedicatedto another branch! They work together because,deep-down,they live together.Their family is one and thesame. \nSo if one branch breaks out into buds, the chancesare that the neighbors will soon fall in line.If oneof them decides to grow a pear, the others will insiston doing it too.And if one of them sheds crisp, yellow leaves, the rest will soon go along with the idea. \nLife in a Catholic parish is meant to be much thesame.Everybody lives on the same tree.Everybodythrives on the same nourishment.\"We are many, butwe are also just one.”This is the way a parishionerhas to talk.It is the language of community life.Itis impossible for any parishioner to“live alone.” \nWhat unites the people,of course,is the fact thatthey have one mother, the Church, and one father,God.Parish life is really God's life spread all aboutthe neighborhood by the pastor. This is how Christhas planned to work out the errand his Father gavehim to do in the souls of men. \nHilary Hill,O.S.B. \nEvery man is created for a reason. And that reasonis to love God with his whole heart, his whole soul andhis whole strength, and hence to be happy with himin this life and in the next.To fulfil this definite, high purpose, the path must be marked out for a manin such a way that he can unmistakenly follow it.Christ has marked out the way. And,since his earthlymission was limited to three short years,he set uphis Church, his Mystical Body,to continue his workthrough time.Today his Church speaks for him andacts for him. \nNow,we talk of“the Church”so often;but theword is so vague to our ears.To get a better under-standing of this“Church,”let us,for the moment, look at its smallest hierarchical unit—the parish. \nEvery Catholic is a member of some parish.Though he might wander the world over,he is alwaysa parishioner. The whole world is divided into dioceses, and each diocese into parishes, parishes establishedwith clear boundaries by the bishop. \nBut besides this rather geographical viewpoint, wecan look at the parish in a juridical way as well.Thatis,we can call it a juridical body
