It explains how planting distance between ridges and stations depends on groundnut variety, and provides recommended cassava spacing for processing into Kandowole as well as spacing for tubers sold fresh. The unit also guides selection of cassava cuttings from well-matured plants and proper cutting length, node count, angled planting, and soil insertion depth. It concludes with examples of improved and local cassava varieties grown in Malawi.","Agriculture for Standard Six-Unit 14 \nPLANTING GROUNDNUTS AND CASSAVA \nEnglish Agriculture \nAgriculture for Standard Six-Unit 14 PLANTING GROUNDNUTS AND CASSAVA \nEnglish Zomba, Southern , Malawi \nCopyright © 2025, Knowledge & Information for Successful Society \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. It is recommended to plant cassava on ridges spaced at 90 centimetres apart and 90 centimetres between planting stations where it would be processed into Kandowole. \nFor the tubers to be sold fresh at the market, spacing of 90 centimetres between ridges and 45 centimetres between planting stations is used. \nCassava (Contd) \nCassava planting materials must be obtained from a middle portion of a well matured plant. Cassava cuttings should be 25 to 30 centimetres long with at least two nodes. \nCuttings should be planted at an angle and two thirds of the cuttings should be planted into the soil. This prevents water from settling down on the cut edges which can cause rotting of the cutting. \nCassava (Contd) \nThe improved varieties of cassava includesilira, maunjiri and mkondezi. \nThere are also local varieties that are grown in Malawi like Manyokola (mbundumali), Gomani and Chitembwere.","cbCainhdjXEbHj10","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCainhdjXEbHj10","pdf",88771,3,1,13,"English","en",105,"# PLANTING GROUNDNUTS AND CASSAVA\n## PLANTING GROUNDNUTS\n## CASSAVA\n## CASSAVA (Contd)","[{\"question\":\"When should groundnuts be planted in Malawi?\",\"answer\":\"Groundnuts are planted with the first or soaking rains of between 25 mm and 30 mm.
