It centers on scavengers exploring ruined arcologies and seed vaults, recovering Age of Light artifacts, and surviving by balancing resources with uncertain risk and reward. The rules define challenges, high-stakes versus low-stakes consequences, target numbers by difficulty, and how players choose attributes and assets to resolve actions in a living world.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/","Story & Novel",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/after-the-rain-role-playing-game-big-picture/146180/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/after-the-rain-role-playing-game-big-picture/146180.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Levi","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-29","2026-08-26",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",13,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"What is the core premise of After the Rain?","Question",{"text":63,"@type":64},"After the Rain follows scavengers navigating the ruins of humanity’s golden age, where long-lost wonders are hidden in arcologies, seed vaults, and forgotten machine systems.","Answer",{"name":66,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":67},"How do challenges work in the game?",{"text":68,"@type":64},"Players state goals and work with the GM to identify threats. Before the great culling, before the Enemy struck from beyond the stars with geneplagues and etheric storms, there was another time. An Age of Light, when scramjets carved long furrows across the sky, colony ships rode columns of flame into orbit, vast machine intellects blossomed in living crystal, billions lived in soaring towers of glass and steel, and the blazing lights ofthe cities filled the night. \nNow, the final embers of humanity lie scattered across a vast wilderness. People talk about the old days like a half-remembered dream, as they hunt boar amid crumbling car-parks, drink rotgut by the rusted skeletons of suspension bridges, and pay tribute to self-crowned warlords. \nBut the dream is real ; it’s out there, hidden in remote seed vaults and command posts, locked within the towering skeletons ofthe arcologies, woven into the circuitry of long-forgotten machines. So find a few souls who are as brave or as desperate as you, spend your last couple ofchits on a sturdy pair of boots and some rusty tools, and set offfor the old ruin in the next valley over, where no one ever goes. Within lie the lost wonders of the Age of Light. \nJust remember this: if these wonders have lain unclaimed for decades, there’s probably areason why... \nThe Big Picture \nAfter the Rain is a role-playing game about scavengers picking through the ashes of humanity’s golden age. It is an homage to the themes and playstyles ofthe earliest editions of Dungeons and Dragons, seen through a dark mirror; dungeons and tombs are replaced with ruined arcologies and seed vaults, goblins and ogres with mutated wildlife and feral combat automata, and magical weapons and glittering jewels and with plasma weaponry and lost blueprints. \nFuture versions of After the Rain will include guidelines for domain-level play, as the characters use their discoveries to carve out pockets of order and peace in a chaotic and violent world (or to create a little chaos and violence of their own) . For now, the rules focus on going into dangerous places and getting out with life, limb, and boodle. \nThe Players... \n● Explore the verdant ruins of Earth \n● Recover wondrous artifacts of the Age of Light \n● Weigh risk and reward \n● Make tough decisions \n● Use resources (equipment, connections, time, water, air) wisely \nThe Game Master (GM) ... \n● Portrays a living world with a promethean past and an uncertain future \n● Creates dynamic situations for the players to explore \n● Presents challenges for the players to face \nAfter The Rain v0.1 August 2017 \n● Presents risk commensurate with reward \n● Brings consequences to bear \nInspiration \nCheck out photos of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, and the artwork of Simon Stalenhag and Dan McPharlin. Listen to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Boards of Canada, Explosions in the Sky, and Earth. Play Destiny, S. T.A.L.K.E.R., and The Last of Us. \nThe System \nAt its core, After the Rain is about resources, risk, and reward. Players must make judicious use of the resources they have (ammunition, food, water, time, air, their own bodily integrity) to overcome challenges. Progress (or mere survival) will demand putting these resources on the line. \nChallenges \nAny time you attempt an action that has a possibility of interesting failure, you’re facing a challenge. State your goal, then work with the GM to determine the type of threat you face. \n● If the threat is immediate and overt (setting off a tripmine or being crushed by a collapsing ceiling), the challenge is high-stakes. In a high-stakes challenge, the roll represents your one shot to achieve your goal ; a failed roll means you failed to achieve your goal. \n● If the threat is something more subtle (giving away your location or using up precious oxygen), the challenge is low-stakes. In a low-stakes challenge, the roll represents your character trying until you ","cbCaiuUDoglYYAbj","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiuUDoglYYAbj","pdf",406454,"English","# The Big Picture\n## The Players\n## The Game Master (GM)\n# After The Rain v0.1 August 2017\n## Inspiration\n## The System\n### Resources, Risk, and Reward\n## Challenges\n### Challenge Types: High-stakes vs Low-stakes\n### Target Number (TN)\n## Rolling the Bones\n### Attributes and Assets\n### Extra Assets","[{\"question\":\"What is the core premise of After the Rain?\",\"answer\":\"After the Rain follows scavengers navigating the ruins of humanity’s golden age, where long-lost wonders are hidden in arcologies, seed vaults, and forgotten machine systems.\"},{\"question\":\"How do challenges work in the game?\",\"answer\":\"Players state goals and work with the GM to identify threats.
