Some common responses include: \n• Strained child-caregiver relationships \n• Traumatic stress reactions and symptoms \n• Increased behavior problems \n• Emotional and/or physical injuries \n• Legal problems \n• Placement disruptions \nPhases of AF-CBT \nAF–CBT includes specialized content and skills that are delivered in three phases. \n1 \nEngagement and Psychoeducation \n• Alliance Building and Engagement \n• Learning about Feeling and Family Experiences \n• Talking about Family Experiences and Psychoeducation \n2 Individual Skill-Building \n• Emotion Regulation \n• Restructuring Thoughts \n• Noticing Positive Behavior \n• Assertiveness and Social Skills \n• Techniques for Managing Behavior \n• Imaginal Exposure \n• Clarification Preparation \n3 Family Applications \n• Verbalizing Healthy Communication \n• Enhancing Safety through Clarification \n• Solving Family Problems \nHow will AF-CBT help my family? \nIt can be challenging to care for a child who struggles with defiance, aggression, or other problem behaviors. Family conflict can easily lead to caregiver frustration and use the use of harsh, but ineffective discipline. AFCBT helps families learn new, safe, and more effective ways to overcome or prevent these struggles. \nIn AF-CBT, the provider works with the child and caregiver separately and sometimes together. Families in AF-CBT receive several important services from one provider (“onestop shop”) . This eliminates the need to send the family to several different providers for parenting classes, anger management, family therapy, individual therapy, and trauma treatment. All of these services are offered in AF-CBT. \nWho is appropriate for AF-CBT? \nA family may be eligible for AF-CBT when dealing with one or more of the following: \n1. A family or a caregiver and child who experience frequent conflicts, arguments, or angry feelings \n2. A caregiver with concerns about use of physical force or discipline, who worries about doing something that could injure or hurt a child, or who has a history of physical or emotional abuse \n3. A child (5-17 years old) who exhibits challenging behaviors (e.g., not listening, fighting, hard to manage) or shows trauma symptoms related to family conflict, aggression, or physical force \nBismarck • Dickinson • Jamestown Standing Rock • Watford City \n[701.323.5626](701.323.5626 | dakotacac.org)[ |](701.323.5626 | dakotacac.org)[ dakotacac.org](701.323.5626 | dakotacac.org) \nMinot • Williston • Bottineau \n[701.852.0836 | northernplainscac.org](701.852.0836 | northernplainscac.org) \nFargo • Grand Forks ","cbCaidg7ahyZq5pB","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidg7ahyZq5pB","pdf",583157,"English","# AF-CBT Overview\n## AF-CBT Goals\n## Benefits of AF-CBT\n# Impact of Conflict on Families\n# Phases of AF-CBT\n## Engagement and Psychoeducation\n## Individual Skill-Building\n## Family Applications\n# How AF-CBT Helps Families\n## Provider collaboration model\n# Eligibility for AF-CBT","[{\"question\":\"What is AF-CBT designed to help families achieve?\",\"answer\":\"AF-CBT focuses on maintaining child and family safety, improving the child-caregiver relationship, enhancing family strengths, and helping families adapt to stressful experiences through safer coping and discipline strategies.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the three phases of AF-CBT?\",\"answer\":\"AF-CBT includes three phases: engagement and psychoeducation, individual skill-building, and family applications that apply communication and problem-solving skills at the family level.\"},{\"question\":\"Who is appropriate for AF-CBT?\",\"answer\":\"Families may be eligible when they experience frequent conflict and angry feelings, when caregivers have concerns about physical force or prior abuse, or when children (ages 5–17) show challenging behaviors or trauma symptoms related to family conflict.\"}]","AF-CBT Alternatives for Families - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT) - Family conflict and behavior problem intervention | PDF"]
