You will need your own copy of the book as we will use it for specific skill-based assignments throughout the first nine weeks. *If you have any questions on the summer reading, please contact our English coordinator, Mrs. Brandi Benson, [at brandi.benson@nisd.net](at brandi.benson@nisd.net). \nEnglish III AP is an intensive, college-level writing and composition course taken at a high school campus. It is the equivalent of 1301 and 1302 which is the first college English writing course all students will take regardless of their major. The primary genre we focus on in this course is nonfiction over various topics, as this helps us generate ideas for writing and makes us well-read on multiple topics that will be called upon in a college course and on the AP exam in May. \nEarly this summer, take a look at the list of nonfiction texts below and pick one to read critically and complete tasks 1 and 2. \n****(Please note that the texts on this summer reading list are intended for an Advanced Placement/Dual Credit English course that works with various writers’ perspectives and ideas on personal and world issues. Some of these perspectives may not align with your own thinking which gives you room to understand a different perspective. This is a choice read. If you and your parent/guardian think this is not suitable for you, please select another book.) \nAfter picking your book, please be sure to read carefully and do the following: \nTasks: \n( 1)Take note of vocabulary words you do not know, determine what they mean, and understand how they give us insight into the text. \n(2) Pick out/highlight lines from the text that are interesting in how they are written and/or meaning.
