In nine of the past 10 years, 20 ACS (International) students have gained this award. We congratulate Madeline Choi on her outstanding achievement, just announced, in last November’s IGCSE English Literature examination. Best in the World awards are recognition of students’ high academic ability and sustained hard work, particularly over the past two years. We also acknowledge the efforts of Madeline’s Literature teachers – Mr Michael Hollis and Mrs Michelle Liew – in assisting, guiding and providing high-quality teaching in order to help achieve this result. \nOver the past three weeks since the last newsletter, we have also enjoyed Inter-House Photography, Story-Telling, Music, Touch and Basketball competitions; and this week we celebrated the achievements of the top performing students in the Term 2 reports. We have much to be thankful for. \nNext term, we begin with Prelim Examinations for Years 4 and 6, and with two Staff Only Days for professional development and a review of our strategic direction. \nAs the school term closes this week, we wish the students and staff participating in overseas trips over the holidays a safe, enjoyable and rewarding experience. The trips include the Southern Africa, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Malaysia service trips; and the Junior/Middle trip to the USA. Many thanks to the staff who have given up their time to give the students these wonderful opportunities. \nWe also wish all members of the school community a safe and relaxing time of refreshment with increased quality time with families during the Term 2 school holiday. With Years 4 and 6 Prelim Examinations in the first two weeks of Term 3, these students will also obviously need to balance some holiday time with sustained study. \n“The Lord bless you, and keep you: The Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you: The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.” \nNumbers 6:24-26. \nRob Burrough \nPrincipal \nIN THIS ISSUE \n• Parents Bonding Session at Fort Canning \n• Staff News \n• Mobile Device Policy and No Phones in Assembly/Chapel \n• Students on School Site \n• Medical Certificates and Student Absences \n• Term 3 Start Dates \n• ACS (International) 2020 Calendar \n• Term 3 Parent-Teacher Meetings \n• Prelim Examination Dates 2019 \n• Full School Uniform During Examinations and School Revision \n• Direct Schools Admissions \n• Admissions Tests for Other Schools \n• ACS Echo \n• Office Holiday Hours \n• Request for Testimonials/Transcripts \n• Term 2 Commendation Awards \n• June Holiday Tuition \n• IGCSE – Top in the World! \n• Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad 2019 \n• ‘SHE IS MORE” Youth Art Competition \n• Ex-Head Girl Clinched Third Price in Environment Care \nCompetition \n• Year 4 Student a First Prize Winner of London Grand Prize Virtuoso \n• Inter-House Competitions \n• Thoburn House’s Visit to The Food Bank Singapore \n• Pizza-Making Workshop at PastaMania \n• Geography Trips in Term 2 \n• Year 1 Integrated Humanities Trip to Telok Ayer Street \n• Interact Club May Service Projects \n• Trip to Kukup, Johor \n• Higher Education News \n• Sports News \n• Upcoming Events \nThe largest island in the Mediterranean sea is Sicily \nPSP NEWS \nParents Bonding Session at Fort Canning \nOn Saturday morning, 4 May, PSP organised a bonding session for 40 parents which started with an award-winning Battlebox tour followed by a sumptuous buffet lunch at The Salon (Hotel Fort Canning) . \nParents were given a private guided tour of the former British World War II underground command centre constructed under the Fort Canning Hill which comprises 26 rooms and one service reservoir.
