It outlines strategic adjustments made to enhance the student exam experience, such as ensuring early Foundation Tier questions remain accessible, refining common questions for targeted grade levels, and optimizing language and contextual clarity to focus exclusively on testing mathematical proficiency. Furthermore, the report details rigorous paper layout reviews, including the optimization of diagram dimensions and working space, alongside ongoing performance analysis of live exam series to ensure a steady progression in question difficulty. By maintaining a data-driven approach, these accessibility initiatives aim to bolster student confidence and ensure consistent, equitable assessment across both Foundation and Higher tier papers throughout the Key Stage 4 curriculum.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/","Exam",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/accessibility-changes-to-gcse-maths-exams-pearson-implementation-overview/619099/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/accessibility-changes-to-gcse-maths-exams-pearson-implementation-overview/619099.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Logic","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-11-08","2026-10-20",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",6,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"What changes made to our GCSE Maths exams papers since 2018 \nPearson is the number one choice for mathematics. We give GCSE teachers an array of tools to support them with teaching so that their students have everything they need to make progress in their maths knowledge at KS4 . \nFollowing feedback from teachers and our own research and analysis on every exam series since 2017, we have made continuous improvements on the accessibility of our papers to ensure that we keep on improving students’ exam experience. \nThese include but are not limited to: \nEarly questions on Foundation Tier papers are accessible to all students and will be mainly one mark questions. \nCommon questions which appear on both Higher and Foundation Tier papers are all accessible to students targeting grades 4 and 5. \nThe use of appropriate language and contexts in all \nquestions so that we are testing mathematical ability only. Good coverage of topics tested each series. \nPaper layout reviews to make sure diagrams are large enough and students have enough working space. \nWe review all these papers regularly using evidence of question performance in the live papers to further refine our approach to targeting questions to particular grades. This helps ensure that the difficulty of questions increases steadily through the paper so that students are able to gain confidence as they work through the papers. \nSpeak to us about our exam papers \n1747004903 | UKS | January 2025 | Version 1.0 | DCL1:Public","cbCaik73BuSBNNWm","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaik73BuSBNNWm","pdf",46306,"English","# Accessibility Improvements in GCSE Maths Exams\n## Core Strategic Changes\n## Performance Monitoring and Refinement","[{\"question\":\"What specific improvements have been made to GCSE Maths exam papers?\",\"answer\":\"Pearson has implemented several changes, including making early Foundation Tier questions more accessible, ensuring common questions are targeted at grades 4 and 5, using clear language, and optimizing paper layouts for better diagrams and working space.\"},{\"question\":\"How does Pearson ensure the effectiveness of these accessibility changes?\",\"answer\":\"Pearson reviews exam papers regularly using evidence of question performance from live series to refine their approach and ensure a steady increase in difficulty throughout the assessments.\"},{\"question\":\"What is the primary goal of these accessibility initiatives?\",\"answer\":\"The primary goal is to improve the student exam experience by ensuring that questions test mathematical ability clearly and allow students to build confidence as they progress through the examination paper.\"}]","Accessibility Changes to GCSE Maths Exams - Pearson Implementation Overview | PDF",1792462464]
