the HESI A2 Entrance Exam:  \nHESI is an admission assessment exam that Allied Health Programs across the country use to test applicants in three main academic areas – English Language, Math, and Science-and two personal assessment areas.  \nStudents applying to the Surgical Technology Program at Fletcher will be tested on the following components of the exam:  \nThe following information is from Elsevier Evolve, the company responsible for the exam content  \nENGLISH LANGUAGE (Each exam includes 55 test items – 50 scored and 5 pilot questions)  \n• Reading Comprehension (60 minutes)  \nProvides reading scenarios in order to measure reading comprehension, identifying the main idea, finding meaning of words in context, passage comprehension, making logical inferences, etc.  \n• Vocabulary and General Knowledge (50 minutes)  \nContains vocabulary terms that are commonly used in both general English-speaking settings and in health care fields.  \n• Grammar (50 minutes)  \nContains basic grammar, including parts of speech, important terms and their uses, commonly occurring grammatical errors, etc.  \nMATH (Exam includes 55 test items – 50 scored and 5 pilot questions)  \n• Basic Math Skills (50 minutes)  \nFocuses on math skills needed for health care fields, including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ration and proportion, household measures, general math facts, etc.  \nSCIENCE ( Each exam includes 30 test items-25 scored and 5 pilot questions)  \n• Biology (25 minutes)  \nCovers biology basics, water, biological molecules, metabolism, cells, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, etc.  \n• Anatomy and Physiology (25 minutes)  \nProvides coverage of general terminology and anatomical structures and systems.  \n• Chemistry (This section will not be administered for the Surgical Technology Program applicants)  \nLEARNER PROFILE  \n• Learning Style (14 test items) (15 minutes) Assesses preferred learning style  \n• Personality Profile (15 items) (15 minutes) Assesses personality related to preferred learning style.  \nApplicants are not required to purchase study guide material prior to taking the HESI A2 entrance exam; however, for those applicants that are interested, the Fletcher Bookstore does offer the Elsevier Study Guide for the HESI A2
