Patients had failed ≥3 months of conservative care. Functional assessments (AOFAS hindfoot score) and lateral radiographs (Fowler–Philip angle, calcaneal pitch, and total calcaneal angle) were recorded preoperatively, and at 6 weeks, 3 months, and ėnal follow-up (minimum 6 months).
Results: Mean AOFAS scores improved from 55.6 preoperatively to 77.5 at 6 months, indicating statistically and clinically signiėcant improvement. No major complications were observed during the follow-up period.
Discussion: Partial osteotomy of the calcaneal tuberosity offers a safe and effective option for patients with Haglund’s syndrome who fail to respond to conservative therapy. It signiėcantly improves function and reduces pain, as evidenced by a consistent rise inAOFAS scores. Conclusion: Partial osteotomy of the calcaneal tuberosity offers a safe and effective option for patients with Haglund’s syndrome who fail to respond to conservative therapy. It signiėcantly improves function and reduces pain, as evidenced by consistent rise inAOFAS scores. Keywords: Haglund’s syndrome, calcaneal tuberosity osteotomy, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society score, heel pain, foot surgery, retrocalcaneal bursitis, functional outcome.
Introduction
Haglund’s syndrome is a painful condition involving a bony prominence on the posterosuperior aspect of the calcaneus, oěen leading to retrocalcaneal bursitis and Achilles tendinopathy [1]. ĉis disorder, commonly seen in active individuals, particularly females, can cause signiėcant morbidity.ĉe pathophysiology involves irritation caused by mechanical
impingement between the Achilles tendon and the prominent calcaneal tuberosity [2].
Conservative treatment options include non-steroidal antiinĚammatory drugs, heel liěs, footwear modiėcations, and physiotherapy [3]. Surgical intervention becomes necessary when conservative methods fail [4]. Partial osteotomy of the calcaneal tuberosity, by reducing the bony prominence, aims to

|
Access this article online

Website: [www.jocr.co.in](www.jocr.co.in)

DOI:
hĨ[ps://doi.org/10.13107/jocr.2025.v15.i12.6536](ps://doi.org/10.13107/jocr.2025.v15.i12.6536) | Author’s Photo Gallery | | | |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| | | | | |
| |
1Department of Orthopaedics, Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600044, India.
Address of Correspondence:
Dr. Ashin Khan,
F2 , E-Block , Men’s PG hostel , Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, Chrompet , Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600044, India.
E-mail: [aashinkhan.31@gmail.com](aashinkhan.31@gmail.com) | | | |
| SubmiĨed: 15/09/2025; Review: 26/10/2025; Accepted: November 2025; Published: December 2025 | | | | |
| DOI: hĨ[ps://doi.org/10.13107/jocr.2025.v15.i12.6536](ps://doi.org/10.13107/jocr.2025.v15.i12.6536)
© ĉe Author(s). 2025 Open Access. ĉis article is distributed under the terms of the Creative ","cbCaiocrtqcx67ef","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiocrtqcx67ef","pdf",7644135,"English","# Learning Point of the Article
# Abstract
# Introduction
## Aim and objectives
# Materials and Methods
## Patient selection and grouping
## Surgical protocol
# Results
# Discussion
# Conclusion
# Keywords","[{"question":"What treatment approach was assessed for Haglund’s syndrome?","answer":"The study assessed partial resection of the calcaneal tuberosity with bursectomy to reduce the bony prominence and relieve pressure on the Achilles insertion and retrocalcaneal bursa."},{"question":"How were functional outcomes measured in the study?","answer":"Functional outcomes were measured using the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) hindfoot score, recorded preoperatively and during follow-up visits."},{"question":"What were the main results and were there major complications?","answer":"Mean AOFAS scores improved from 55.6 preoperatively to 77.5 at 6 months, and no major complications were observed during the follow-up period."}]","A Prospective Case Series - Partial Resection of Calcaneal Tuberosity for Haglund’s Syndrome - Functional Outcomes | PDF",1790721946,13]
