All subjects are marked to the same standard and there are multiple checks to make sure that marking is fair. All VCE examinations are independently marked by at least two assessors, with third and fourth markings taking place where agreement cannot be reached between the earlier assessors. \nAt the same time, the VCAA has conducted a review of all 56 exams and questions affected by the production error, to begin to review the potential extent of impact of early access to the exam materials. \nFollowing this review, the expert advisory panel that was appointed to oversee the assessment and analysis of this year’s exams gave the direction that independent VCE subject matter experts should review the VCAA’s assessment of the extent of impact. \nThese experts represent our state’s peak teaching associations and bodies, including the Victorian Commercial Teachers Association, the Mathematical Association of Victoria, Master Teachers-in-Residence at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership, as well as representatives from universities. \nNext steps \nThe expert panel are applying the anomalous grade check process. \nThis process will: \n1. Review student marks in the affected exams and identify any anomalies in how students have responded to the affected questions, including how the affected question relates to the rest of the exam. \n2. Analyse if any discrepancies are identified and if so, further analysis will be undertaken. This could include comparing how students performed compared to other students, and how students performed on other examinations and assessments. \n3. Adjust student marks if any questions are identified as providing anyone with an unfair advantage. This could mean invalidating questions and awarding all students who sat this exam a full mark if necessary. \nI can confirm that we remain on track to release the 2024 results on 12 December as planned. \nInformation, including Q&As, is on our website, [see: www.vcaa.vic.edu.au](see: www.vcaa.vic.edu.au) \nOnce again, I extend my sincere apologies for these errors and remain committed to ensuring that all students work is marked fairly during this process. \nYours sincerely \nDr Marcia Devlin AM \nInterim Chief Executive Officer \nVictorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority \nA message from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority \nI write further to my letter on Friday 22 November 2024, regarding the work underway to address the errors that have impacted the 2024 Victorian Certificate of Education examinations. \nThe Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) today has published the list of 56 VCE examinations impacted by the inadvertent publication of examination material on the exam cover sheets. \nThe list is available on the VCAA’s website. \nIn no case was a full examination published early. \nThe exam cover sheet error represents a potential risk of advantage. Whether this became an actual advantage will only be determined when the marking of the examinations is completed. \nI understand, regret and apologise for the concern caused by the early publication of some examination material. \nAdditional information, including Q&As, is on [our website: www.vcaa.vic.edu.au](our website: www.vcaa.vic.edu.au)[ ](our website: www.vcaa.vic.edu.au)Yours sincerely \nDr Marcia Devlin AM \nInterim Chief Executive Officer \nVictorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority","cbCaim90ftY14lHF","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaim90ftY14lHF","pdf",83897,"English","# Next steps\n## Anomalous grade check process\n## Marking timeline and release date","[{\"question\":\"What error affected the 2024 VCE examinations?\",\"answer\":\"An inadvertent publication of examination material on the exam cover sheets impacted 56 VCE examinations and associated questions.\"},{\"question\":\"How is marking ensured to be fair for VCE exams?\",\"answer\":\"Exams are independently marked by at least two assessors, and third and fourth markings occur where agreement cannot be reached; multiple checks support consistency.\"},{\"question\":\"What is the anomalous grade check process used for?\",\"answer\":\"It reviews student marks for anomalies in responses, analyses any discrepancies, and adjusts marks if any questions are identified as providing an unfair advantage, potentially including invalidating questions and awarding full marks where necessary.\"}]","A message from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority - Update on 2024 VCE assessments and exam-cover-sheet error | PDF",1789906931]
