Using Wave 1 data from the National Dementia Workforce Study Nursing Home Survey (N=374), confidence is measured by four dimensions reflecting communication improvement, tailored care approaches, motivation, and active team roles. Multivariate logistic regression shows higher confidence predicts lower odds of resident communication difficulties, while confidence is not linked to disrespectful resident behaviors. Confidence in providing dementia care is codedas a continuous variable by summing the following 4 dimensions: \n(1) use past information to improve communication,(2) adapting working style for tailored care (3) keep motivating, and (4) play an active role in the team. Two separate multivariate logistic regressions revealed that confidence in providing dementia care is associated with lower odds of experiencing communication difficulties with residents (OR = 0.70, p ≤0.001). In contrast, confidence in providing dementia care is not associated with experiencing disrespectful behaviors from residents (OR = 0.85, p = 0.176). This study suggests that interventions that build confidence in dementia care (e.g., targeted training), including strategies for navigating communication and behavior challenges, could improve dementia care worker experiences and strengthen this workforce overall. \nAbstract citation ID: igaf122.3689 \nA HIDDEN CRISIS IN NURSING HOMES: EXAMINING \nDEMENTIA CONFIDENCE AND NEGATIVE JOB \nEXPERIENCE \nJoonyoung Cho1, and Angela Perone2, 1. University of California, Berkeley, Berkeley, California, United States \nWhile dementia care needs in nursing homes are increasing, staff positions are often unfilled. Research suggests that some workers report challenging experiences by residents (e.g., communication problems, disrespectful behaviors) . Confidence in providing care might shape their experiences, yet we know little about whether confidence in providing dementia care is associated with negative experiences. To address this gap, we used data from the National Dementia Workforce Study Nursing Home Survey Wave 1, an annual survey of dementia workers in the US.","cbCaiqWdUShlDYcZ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqWdUShlDYcZ","pdf",983267,"English","# Study Design and Data Source\n## Measures of Dementia-Care Confidence\n## Multivariate Logistic Regression Findings\n## Implications for Interventions","[{\"question\":\"What research gap does the study address?\",\"answer\":\"The study examines whether dementia-care confidence is associated with negative experiences reported by nursing home workers, including communication problems and disrespectful behaviors.\"},{\"question\":\"How is dementia-care confidence measured in the study?\",\"answer\":\"Confidence is coded as a continuous variable by summing four dimensions: improving communication using past information, adapting work style for tailored care, staying motivating, and playing an active role in the team.\"},{\"question\":\"What do the results show about confidence and negative experiences?\",\"answer\":\"Higher confidence is associated with lower odds of experiencing communication difficulties with residents, but it is not associated with disrespectful behaviors from residents.\"}]","A Hidden Crisis in Nursing Homes - Examining Dementia Confidence and Negative Job Experience | PDF",1790640241]
