documenting sources in research papers. This pamphlet ex-analyzes some of their implications for your research and composing. \nThere are three major features of MLA style.First, all sources cited ina paper are listed in a section entitled Works Cited located at the end of thepaper.Second, material borrowed from another source is documentedwithin the text by a brief parenthetical reference that directs readers to thefull citation in the list of works cited.Third, footnotes or endnotes are usedto present two types of supplementary information:(1)commentary orexplanation that the text cannot accommodate and(2)bibliographicalnotes containing several source citations. \n# 1.Preparing the List of Works Cited\n\nIn MLA style, the list of works cited is the only place where readers willbeable to locate complete nformation about the sources you have cited inyour research paper. For that reason, your list must be thorough andaccurate so that readers will know exactly where they can find the sourcesof the words, ideas, and evidence presented in your text. \nThe list of works cited appears at the end of your paper and,as its titlesuggests, lists only the works you have cited in your paper.Occasionally, your instructor may ask you to prepare a list of works consulted,a list thatincludes not only the sources you cite but also the sources you consulted asyou conducted your research. In either case,MLA prefers Works Cited orWorks Consulted to the more limited heading
