Brain.played a concerto ona common-or-garden hosepipe and Haydn's “Surprise”got the biggest surprise of its life.  \nBut the concert got off to a splendid start with MalcolmArnold's overture and if ever there was a stroke of geniusit was our idea of enlisting his help.For here is acomposer whose mind is no vacuum,a composer whorfles his effects from no man.Not only was (and is)hisoverture brilliantly original but it was such a gay,festivepiece.That rollicking tune put everybody in the moodfor enjoyment and it does the trick again and_again.TheHoover-players on that occasion were Olive Zorian,JeanStewart,Sheila Arnold and Pauline Del Mar.  \nA word about the stuttering title:during the eighteenthand nineteenth centuries there were many Grand Over-tures but it was left to 1956 and
