A.M.,Friday,February 13,cancer endedthe earthly life of a Friar well known to our readers,either becausethey had the privilege of attending his lectures,or because they haveread his charming articles in our periodical and his books publishedby the Institute or somewhere else.  \nBorn in Avenwedde,Germany,on March 19,1879,FatherThomas came to the United States as a boy of High School age,andat nineteen he joined the Franciscan Order(Holy Name Province,New York).After his ordination to the priesthood,with a B.A.ofQuincy College,Illinois,he was sent on for higher studies inWashington,Rome,Louvain,and the Holy Land.He returned withan S.T.D.and a Ph.D.and joined the staff of what was at that timeSaint Bonaventure College and Seminary.He was president of theinstitution from 1920 to 1949,during which period he also servedas guardian,definitor,and provincial secretary,and was appointedvisitator general to Canada,Germany,and Ireland.From 1949 to1952 he filled the office of minister provincial for Holy Name Prov-ince,and since 1952 was rector of the new Christ the KingSeminary,serving at the same time as guardian from 1952 to 1958.In 1954 he was appointed visitator general to Mexico.  \nFather Thomas founded The Franciscan Education Conferencein 1919,serving as president until 1946,and Franciscan Studies,of which he was editor for many years.In 1941,with the ableassistance of the late Father Philotheus Boehner,Father Thomas  \nmade of Franciscan Studies—which originally was intended to pub-lish Reports of the annual meeting of the Conference—a scientificquarterly with its December issue reproducing the report of theConference.In 1945 Franciscan Studies ceased to publish the Reports,but remained under the sponsorship of the Educational Conference.Ever since the Reports are edited separately.Thus both FranciscanStudies and the Annual Reports can be traced back to the initiativeof Father Thomas.  \nIn 1940 Fathers Mathias Faust,Thomas Plassmann,and Phil-otheus Boehner originated what since 1942 has been known as theFranciscan Institute.In addition,Father Thomas served as presidentor officer of such learned societies as The National Catholic Educa-tion Association,The Catholic Biblical Association,The CatholicHistorical Association and The Association of Colleges and Uni-versities of New York State.  \nIn October
