Those papers which met the following criteria were selected and included in this review: \n(1) Papers published from 2000 to 2014 were included if they were cited by at least one other published article and (2) papers published from 2015 to 2017 were included if they were presented in a core research journal. Based on that, speculative thinking and critical thinking are also embodied in this research. \nFindings: Based on the features of “a man of virtue,” the article identifies the four dimensions that have influenced Chinese thinking about moral education: (1) Kantian and Enlightenment philosophy,(2) emotion and life experience, (3) social rights, and (4) the culture-value dimension. The four dimensions of moral educationtheory are related and complement, ratherthan contradict, eachother. The author argues that the research scopes underlying current moral education theories are fairly narrow. Amore comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach is needed to improve theoretical research and to enhance the effectiveness of moral education practice in schools and universities. \nCorresponding author: \nHongyan Cheng, Institute of Moral Education, Central China Normal University, No. 152 Luoyu Road, Hongshan District, Hubei, Wuhan 430079, China. \nEmail: [chenghongyan1975@qq.com](chenghongyan1975@qq.com) \nCreative Commons Non Commercial CC BY-NC: This article is distributed under the terms of the Creative \nCommons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 License ([https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/)) which permits non-commercial use, reproduction and distribution of the work without further permission provided the original work is attributed as specified on the SAGE and Open Access pages ([https://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/open-access-at-sage](https://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/open-access-at-sage)). \nOriginality/Value: The article provides a latest overview and critical insights to consolidate the foundation of moral education in an era of societal transformation by comparing moral education research between China and the West and proposing realizing a deep integration between theory and practice. \nKeywords \nCivic education, life experience education, moral education, research review, subjectivity Date received: 20 December 2017; accepted: 12 October 2019 \nSince the implementation of the economic reform and opening-up policy, moral education has been gradually marginalized due to the rapid development of the market economy and the shift in values caused by societal transformation. Since 2000, waves of moral pluralism introduced by globalization and economic integration have fostered an environment that is restrictive to the development of moral education. To advance moral education theory, researchers must face the challenges presented by “de-moralization” and value rupture brought about by societal transformation and make efforts toreconstruct the theoretical basis of moral education in the age of globalization. \nSince the 1980s, the concept, nature, status, functions, goals, processes, and methods of schoolbased moral education have been extensively discu","cbCaipldrQiWCh2v","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipldrQiWCh2v","pdf",214773,20,"English","# Abstract\n## Purpose and research focus\n## Methods and selection criteria\n## Findings and key dimensions\n## Scholarly implications and future directions","[{\"question\":\"What is the article’s main purpose?\",\"answer\":\"To summarize and reflect on Chinese theoretical research on moral education since 2000 in the context of globalization and value pluralism, and to propose future research directions.\"},{\"question\":\"What research method does the article use?\",\"answer\":\"It primarily uses a literature review, selecting papers based on citation presence for 2000–2014 and core-journal presentation for 2015–2017.\"},{\"question\":\"Which four dimensions influence Chinese thinking about moral education?\",\"answer\":\"The article points to: Kantian and Enlightenment philosophy, emotion and life experience, social rights, and the culture-value dimension.\"}]","A Critical Review of Chinese Theoretical Research on Moral Education Since 2000 - Abstract | PDF",1792091914,50,{"code":4,"msg":81,"data":99},[100,104,108,112,117,121,126,129,133,136,140],{"id":22,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":101,"show_sort_weight":102,"slug":103},"Story & Novel",90,"story-novel",{"id":26,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":105,"show_sort_weight":106,"slug":107},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":33,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":109,"show_sort_weight":110,"slug":111},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":113,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":114,"show_sort_weight":115,"slug":116},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":118,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":119,"show_sort_weight":97,"slug":120},6,"Technology","technology",{"id":122,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":123,"show_sort_weight":124,"slug":125},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":85,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":29,"show_sort_weight":127,"slug":128},30,"research-report",{"id":130,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":131,"show_sort_weight":91,"slug":132},9,"Religion & Spirituality","religion-spirituality",{"id":91,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":134,"show_sort_weight":91,"slug":135},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":137,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":138,"show_sort_weight":137,"slug":139},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":141,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":142,"show_sort_weight":113,"slug":143},19,"General","general"]
