We value the skill of reading and recognize the importance of continuing to read over the summer to help eliminate the summer slide. I also hope these books continue to cultivate a love of lifelong reading.  \nPlease select one book from the attached list. The student can read it independently or as a family, as this creates a shared expereince. I would advise having a journal or sticky notes with you as you read to jot down characters, parts of the plot, figurative language, new words that you find and overall thoughts. We will use the basis of these books throughout the year so please read them thoroughly.  \nWhen you have completed reading you will complete the “One Pager. ”You will need to print off both pages to see the instructions and the page to turn in. The One Pager should be full of color, design , and creativeness in style, with no white spaces. Number the Stars by Lois Lowry  \nIt is 1943 in Denmark, when ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen's family takes in her best friend Ellen and poses her as a member of the family. Ellen is Jewish and Jewish people all over the country, and Europe, are being taken by the Nazis and put into Jewish ghettos and concentration camp. This Newbery Medal winner chronicles the life of this family, the hardships they must face and the heroic decisions that they are forced to make.  \n4.
