Students are not required to pass the naturalization examination in order to pass the U.S.government course. Retests are not required or published in the results. \nIC 20-30-5-7(d) requires the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) to report student data from the naturalization examination to the Indiana General Assembly annually. \nPublic school corporations must report the following information via this JotForm each semester or trimester during which students are enrolled in the U.S. government course. This information must be reported for the most-recent school year by June 30 annually. This reporting should include: \n(1) The number of students who took the naturalization examination; \n(2) The number of students who passed the naturalization examination by a score of no less than sixty percent (60%) on their first attempt; and \n(3) The pass rate of the naturalization examination for the students who participated. \nTest Materials and Process: \nGeneral information regarding the naturalization examination can be found here. Students will participate in the most recent version, the 2025 naturalization examination, which contains 128 items. Students participating in the naturalization examination complete 20 of the 128 items. These items are presented orally by the U.S. government instructor. The U.S. government instructor is responsible for selecting the 20 items to present to students. A student score of 60%(12/20) is considered passing on the student’s first attempt. The total number of students, student scores, and student passing rates are collected at the school level for each semester or trimester the course is offered. Each corporation will determine its own data collection method. A corporation representative must complete the JotForm by June 30, 2027. Although not legislatively required, non-public schools may also administer the naturalization examination and share results. \nPlease contact IDOE’s Office of Student Assessment with additional questions. \nIndiana Government Center North, 9th Floor • 100 N Senate Ave • Indianapolis, Indiana 46204 \n317-232-6610 • [www.doe.in.gov](www.doe.in.gov)","cbCairDfgOt9LIsl","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairDfgOt9LIsl","pdf",98762,"English","# 2026-2027 Naturalization Examination Requirements\n## Background and legal basis\n## Reporting requirements\n## Test materials and process","[{\"question\":\"Who must administer the naturalization examination and when is it taken?\",\"answer\":\"Public school corporations must ensure enrolled students in qualifying U.S. government courses take the USCIS naturalization examination during the student’s high school course, including programs such as Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, dual credit, and Cambridge International courses.\"},{\"question\":\"Is a passing score required for students to pass the U.S. government course?\",\"answer\":\"No. Students are not required to pass the naturalization examination in order to pass the U.S. government course.\"},{\"question\":\"What data must schools report each semester or trimester via JotForm and by when?\",\"answer\":\"Schools must report the number of students who took the exam, the number who passed on their first attempt with a score of at least 60%, and the overall pass rate for participating students.
