Lung AssociationB RE ATHE \nBreathing lifeinto lungs \nsince 1900 \n2024-25 Impact Report \n# Canadian Lung AssociationB RE ATHE\n\nAnnual Impact Report 2024-25 \nWe welcomed new CEO Sarah Butson in April. In November, wewere thrilled to release our new strategic plan followingsignificant work of our board and staff, with insights from ourdonors and the public. We updated our vision and mission andidentified five priority areas that will help guide and define ourwork over the next three years. \nOur plan comes at a time when, despite our understanding ofthe social determinants of health, incidence and outcomes oflung disease remain strongly influenced by where you live, howmuch education you have and how much money you make. This contributes to stigma and misconceptions among decisionmakers and the general public, leading to limited charitablegiving and a disproportionately smaller amount of fundingdirected to lung health research. The result is that manyindividuals living with lung disease and their families find itchallenging to access the support and resources they need. \nIncreasing inequity and access is a significant theme in ournew strategic plan.As Canada's national lung health charity,we have a responsibility to protect the lungs of all Canadians,to advocate for lung-friendly policies and resources and toensure that Canadians living with lung disease have equitableand timely access to treatments, resources and support.Thisreport shares examples of how we're protecting lung healthand preventing lung disease through awareness and policychange and what we're doing to improve the quality of life forthose with lung disease. \nSince 1959,and with the generous support of our donors,we've funded lung health research and researcher training thathas a direct impact on prevention of and treatment for lungdisease. This year,we funded 13 research projects on topicsranging from vaping and cannabis to pulmonary fibrosis andpost-ICU care. \n(or almost 9%of those over \n13%of new cancerdiagnoses and 23%ofall cancer deathsin Canada are due to lungand bronchus cancer. \n35)are living with chronicobstructive pulmonarydisease(COPD). \n2024-25 was a very exciting time at CLA,with newleadership, new strategic directions and new partnerships. \nAlmost 5 millionCanadians \n(or 12%of the population)are living with asthma. \nAlmost 2.5 millionCanadians \nCOPD exacerbations are thesecond-leadingcause ofhospitalizationin Canada behind childbirth. \nof youth in Canadabetween 15 and 19 yearsold have vaped in the past30 days \n31% \nof these youth alsosmoke cigarettes \nNora LaceyChair,Board of Directors \nWe continued to raise awareness of the symptoms and realities of lung disease and of how to keeplungs healthy across the lifespan, for example with our annual vaccination campaigns. Our freeresources and programs like BREATHE Better|Stay STRONG and our Lung Health Helpline, both ofwhich are available from anywhere in Canada, remain much in demand. We distributed income-based funding grants to support the cost of life-saving equipment and remediation. We providedopportunities for sharing living experience and ensured that the realities of daily life(social, economic and otherwise)are part of our conversations when we speak to our partners andsupporters. \nWe've been long-time anti-smoking advocates and this year several milestones were achieved, demonstrating the success of our ongoing advocacy, outreach and provision of evidence-basedinformation to the public, educators, policymakers and government. We launched our Lungs are forLife program for grades 5 to 10 and were successful in achieving stricter control of new nicotineproducts. We are thrilled at the progress we've collectively made —it feels as if a nicotine-freefuture is within sight. \nOne of the highlights of the year was the opportunity to nominate individuals for the King Charles ⅢCoronation Medal;we were one of only a handful of national organizations chosen to do so.Withinput from our partners and the p","cbCaimtFVXxnciNw","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaimtFVXxnciNw","pdf",30691759,"English","# Annual Impact Report 2024-25\n## Our
