THE VISION \nDespite centuries of language shift from Irish to English, the Irish language continues to survive as a living community language in some traditional Gaeltacht heartlands and it is also inuse on a daily basis by many people outside the Gaeltacht. \nThe last hundred years has also seen a flowering of literature and other art forms through the medium of Irish, such that Irish is now a fullyfledged modern European language. \nThe objective of Government policy in relation to Irish is to increase on an incremental basis the use and knowledge of Irish as a community language. Specifically, the Government’s aim is to ensure that as many citizens as possible are bilingual in both Irish and English. It is an integral component of the Government’s Irish language policy that close attention be given to its place in the Gaeltacht, particularly in light of research which indicates that the language’s viability as a household and community language in the Gaeltacht is under threat. \nThe aim of Government policy is also to: \n• increase the number of families throughout the country ","cbCaitLrFkQP10uf","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitLrFkQP10uf","pdf",151417,"English","# The Vision\n# Policy Context\n# A Phased Strategy\n# Specific Objectives\n# Implementation Structures\n# Areas for action:\n## Education\n## The Gaeltacht\n## Family Transmission of the Language – Early Intervention\n## Administration, Services and Community\n## Media and Technology\n## Dictionaries\n## Legislation and Status\n## Economic Life\n## Cross-cutting Initiatives","[{\"question\":\"What is the main vision of the 2010–2030 strategy for Irish?\",\"answer\":\"The strategy aims to increase the use and knowledge of Irish as a community language, building toward a society where many citizens are bilingual in Irish and English while protecting the distinct linguistic identity of the Gaeltacht.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the strategy address the Gaeltacht as a priority region?\",\"answer\":\"It emphasizes close attention to the Gaeltacht’s viability as a household and community language, including linguistic support for Irish-speaking communities and recognition of issues where Irish is the daily language.\"},{\"question\":\"What areas for action are covered across education, media, and public services?\",\"answer\":\"The strategy includes Education, Gaeltacht support, family transmission through early intervention, administration and community services, Media and Technology, dictionaries, legislation and status, economic life, and cross-cutting initiatives.\"}]","20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010 - 2030 | PDF",1790640324,76]
