For a long time the man had not worn clothes or lived in a house. The demons made the man violent.  \nThe man lived among the burial caves in the region. Night and day he would scream among the caves and the hills. He also cut himself with sharp stones.  \nPeople were afraid of him. So they bound him with ropes and even chains. But the man became more violent.  \nEvery time they bound him, he broke the chainsand smashed the iron shackles they fastened around his feet. Finally, no one was able to bind him, not even with chains.  \nWhen Jesus and the disciples got out of the boat, the man saw Jesus from a distance.
