Led by Moses, the people experienced divine provision for their needs, including water, food (manna and quails), and protection from enemies like the Amalekites. The story highlights themes of faith, obedience, and God's faithfulness, evidenced by His provision and establishment of the Ten Commandments. Moses' forty days on Mount Sinai and the divine writing of the commandments on stone tablets are significant events. The narrative emphasizes God's care for His people and their covenant relationship with Him, urging them to obey His voice to be His special people. The story is presented as an English storybook from Bible for Children.","12 Forty Years \nWritten by Edward Hughes [www.bibleforchildren.org](www.bibleforchildren.org) 12/60 \nEnglish Story Book \nWhen God rescued the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses led the people in worship. He made up a song of praise .“I will sing unto the LORD for He has triumphed gloriously.” Moses sang of all the great things God had done for Israel. \nAfter three days in the desert the thirsty people found a pool. But they could not drink the bitter water . Instead of praying, the people complained. God was very kind. He made the water good to drink. \nIt seemed the people complained about everything.“We had food in Egypt. In the desert we will die of hunger,” they cried. That evening God sent birds called quails . The people caught them easily. \nThe next morning God sent manna . It was a kind of bread that tasted like honey wafers . \nEach morning manna lay on the ground ready to be gathered. In this way God fed His people in the desert. \nThey were to trust God every day for new food. But some people gathered extra manna, even though God said it would rot overnight. \nSure enough, yesterday's manna was full of maggots--except on Sabbath day. On that special seventh day the people rested and ate yesterday's manna . \nGod looked after the Israelites in the desert. He gave them food and water--and protected them from enemies . \nWhen the Amalekites attacked, Israel kept winning the \nbattles as long as Moses held up the rod of God. \nGod said to the Israelites,“If you obey My voice you will be My special people.”“All God says, we will do,” the people told Moses . They came to the foot of Mount Sinai and waited while Moses went to meet God. \nMoses was with God on the mountain for forty days . God wrote the Ten Commandments on two slabs of stone . He told Moses how \nHe wanted His people to live .","cbCain7d1tbyMOJy","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCain7d1tbyMOJy","pdf",1940239,4,1,27,"English","en",105,"# God Rescues the Israelites\n# Divine Provision in the Desert\n# The Ten Commandments","[{\"question\":\"Who led the Israelites out of Egypt?\",\"answer\":\"Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt after God rescued them.\"},{\"question\":\"What challenges did the Israelites face in the desert?\",\"answer\":\"The Israelites faced challenges such as a lack of water, hunger, and attacks from enemies like the Amalekites.\"},{\"question\":\"How did God provide for the Israelites in the desert?\",\"answer\":\"God provided water by making bitter water drinkable, sent quails for food, and provided manna, a type of bread that tasted like honey wafers.\"},{\"question\":\"What was Moses doing on Mount Sinai?\",\"answer\":\"Moses was with God on Mount Sinai for forty days, during which God wrote the Ten Commandments on two slabs of stone and instructed Moses on how His people should live.\"}]",1784128532,68,{"code":4,"msg":31,"data":32},"ok",{"site_id":25,"language":24,"slug":33,"title":13,"keywords":34,"description":14,"schema_data":35,"social_meta":90,"head_meta":92,"extra_data":94,"updated_unix":28},"12-forty-years","",{"@graph":36,"@context":89},[37,53,68],{"@type":38,"itemListElement":39},"BreadcrumbList",[40,44,48,51],{"item":41,"name":42,"@type":43,"position":21},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":45,"name":46,"@type":43,"position":47},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":49,"name":12,"@type":43,"position":50},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/religion-spirituality/",3,{"item":52,"name":13,"@type":43,"position":20},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/12-forty-years/80432/",{"url":52,"name":13,"@type":54,"author":55,"headline":13,"publisher":57,"fileFormat":60,"inLanguage":24,"description":14,"dateModified":61,"datePublished":62,"encodingFormat":60,"isAccessibleForFree":63,"interactionStatistic":64},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":56},"Person",{"url":41,"name":58,"@type":59},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-07-24","2026-07-15",true,{"@type":65,"interactionType":66,"userInteractionCount":20},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":67},"ViewAction",{"@type":69,"mainEntity":70},"FAQPage",[71,77,81,85],{"name":72,"@type":73,"acceptedAnswer":74},"Who led the Israelites out of Egypt?","Question",{"text":75,"@type":76},"Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt after God rescued them.","Answer",{"name":78,"@type":73,"acceptedAnswer":79},"What challenges did the Israelites face in the desert?",{"text":80,"@type":76},"The Israelites faced challenges such as a lack of water, hunger, and attacks from enemies like the Amalekites.",{"name":82,"@type":73,"acceptedAnswer":83},"How did God provide for the Israelites in the desert?",{"text":84,"@type":76},"God provided water by making bitter water drinkable, sent quails for food, and provided manna, a type of bread that tasted like honey wafers.",{"name":86,"@type":73,"acceptedAnswer":87},"What was Moses doing on Mount Sinai?",{"text":88,"@type":76},"Moses was with God on Mount Sinai for forty days, during which God wrote the Ten Commandments on two slabs of stone and instructed Moses on how His people should live.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":52,"og:type":91,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":58,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":93,"canonical":52},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":25},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":96},[97,101,105,109,114,119,124,129,132,135,139],{"id":21,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":98,"show_sort_weight":99,"slug":100},"Story & Novel",90,"story-novel",{"id":47,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":102,"show_sort_weight":103,"slug":104},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":20,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":106,"show_sort_weight":107,"slug":108},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":110,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":111,"show_sort_weight":112,"slug":113},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":115,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":116,"show_sort_weight":117,"slug":118},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":120,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":121,"show_sort_weight":122,"slug":123},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":125,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":126,"show_sort_weight":127,"slug":128},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":130,"slug":131},20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":130,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":133,"show_sort_weight":130,"slug":134},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":136,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":137,"show_sort_weight":136,"slug":138},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":140,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":46,"category_name":141,"show_sort_weight":110,"slug":142},19,"General","general"]
