Delivery of most SDGs is considerably behind schedule and in some areas has even gone into reverse. In the context of rising geopolitical tensions, fragility, conflict and violence worldwide, this is serious cause for concern.  \nInstability and security threats hold back development, sap valuable resources at a time of limited fiscal space and severely impact the development of human capital. The rise of geopolitical tensions and the collapse of a stable global world order are severe setbacks for development. The numerous concerns currently defining the global environment are a call to the international community to increase efforts and improve services in a cost-effective, efficient and impactful way.  \nAgainst that backdrop, the OPEC Fund for International Development welcomes and supports the World Bank Group’s evolution process, endorsed at its 2023 Annual Meetings in Marrakesh and expressed in its new vision of “a world free of poverty on a liveable planet.” Sharing the underlying analysis of global economic prospects and pressing development challenges including Climate Action and Just Transition, the OPEC Fund agrees with and supports the dimension, volume and timing of the World Bank’s new roadmap.  \nThe OPEC Fund—active across Africa, Asia and Latin America & the Caribbean—is also implementing a comprehensive reform process via our Strategic Framework 2030. We are midway through achieving the goal of strengthening the OPEC Fund institutionally and financially in order to boost lending operations to our partner countries.  \nBuilding on our 48-year track record of fighting poverty and driving development, the OPEC Fund has identified three core strategic priorities to maximize development impact based on partner countries’priorities and global development objectives, namely: Promoting sustainable development through South-South cooperation; driving climate innovation and Just Transition; and building resilient and equitable societies. Our value added is being delivered through innovative Partnerships, enhanced Financing and Integrated Solutions—underlining our aim to collaborate for impact.  \nThe strategic goals will be translated into four operational priorities: Building infrastructure; Developing human capital; Enhancing institutional capacity; and Promoting private sector and trade. These will be complemented by the cross-cutting priorities: Climate action and Food security.  \nOur Strategic Framework 2030 is already bearing fruit, enabling the OPEC Fund to access international financial markets, boosting our delivery capabilities and raising our value proposition to partner countries.
