Zines can have one creator or multiple creators. \nZines can feature writing (anything from memoirs, interviews, fiction of anygenre, manifestos, nonfiction, or anything else!), art (quick sketches, comics, fine art, or anything else), collage, or ANYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE. \nYou could use a zine as an underground paper foryour school … or anything youwant, to be honest. \n# WHY MAKE A ZINE?\n\nBecause you have something to sayor express. \nBecause you want to makesomething with your own hands. \nBecause you’dlike a gift to give.Because it’s funand creative.WHY NOT? \nGENERAL ZINE PRACTICE. . . \nZines frequently take the shape of numerous 8.5x 11 inch paper (letter size) folded in half, oftenstapled through the fold to keep them together.Zinesters find the cheapest means of copyingtheir work, staple them up, and send them outinto the world of their choosing. Many townsand cities have zine fairs, where zinesters eitherswap zines or offer their work for $1/2/5 . Thereare also a few distributors out there. But makingzines is a labor of love, not art folx practice tomake money. \nFor more information about zines and theirhistory, have a look at the following urls: \nhttp://altzines.tripod.com/ \nhttp://www.zinebook.com/ \nhttp://zinewiki.com/Zine \nYou can also look on the Library’s catalog --there are a number of zines, and books aboutzines available on Hoopla. \n1-PAGE ZINES: Necessary materials \nI am a fan of the one fold zine, and have been a minor collector (don’task to see my collectionthough -- I’m not sure how muchof it will make it to Colorado!) But to get started, making aone-page zine is less time consuming and easier to complete. \nALL YOU NEED: \nA piece of blank paperA pair of scissorsWriting/drawing materials \nOTHER POSSIBLE MATERIALS \nMagazinesGlueGlitter \nWhatever inspires you andwill stay flat! \n1-PAGE ZINES: 9 steps \nStep 1 : Lay your letter-sized piece of paper flat. \nStep 2: Fold in it half, keeping the short side short. \nStep 3: Unfold and refold the edges into the middle. \n1-PAGE ZINES: instructions cont. \nStep 4: Unfold and fold in half, this time keeping the long sidelong. \nStep 5: Unfold and repeat step two. \nStep 6: Use your scissors to cut halfway through from the center from the folded side. \n1-PAGE ZINES: instructions cont. \nStep 7: Unfold, repeat step four. Now you will see an opening in the center. Use the opening to foldthe paper into the zine, making a little booklet. \nFIRST PAGE OF MY ZINE. \nStep 8: Number your pages after you make the blank zine, before you create its contents! \nStep 9: CREATE!!! \n# MY 1-PAGE ZINE: “HOLED UP WITH NOFURNITURE”\n\nI made a quick zine about being in virus-induced isolation in Pueblo.
