Instead of obeying, Jonah flees in the opposite direction, boarding a ship to escape. A powerful wind and violent storm threaten the ship’s survival. The frightened sailors seek help from their gods and lighten the vessel, but the turmoil intensifies. Jonah explains the storm’s cause—his flight from the Lord—and instructs them to throw him into the sea for it to become calm.","070 Jonah \n2 Kings 14:25 2 Kings 19:36 Jonah 1-4 English Spiritual \n070 Jonah \nEnglish \n© 2020 Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. He told Jonah,“Go to the great city of Nineveh in the land of Assyria! Preach to them because the city is very wicked.” \nBut Jonah set out in the opposite direction in order to get away from the Lord. He got on a ship sailing away from Nineveh hoping he would escape from the Lord. \nAs the ship sailed, the Lord sent a powerful wind, and a violent storm came up. The storm was so violent that the ship was about to break apart. \nThe frightened sailors cried out to their gods to save them from drowning. Then they threw the cargo overboard to lighten the ship’s load. They hoped that doing this would keep the ship from sinking. \nBut the storm got worse. Then Jonah told the sailors,“I know this storm is happening because I have fled from the Lord. He is the God of heaven who made the land and the sea. Throw me into the sea, and it will become calm.” \nThe sailors did not want to hurt Jonah, so they tried desperately to row the ship to land. But the storm was so violent that they could not do it. So they picked him up and threw him into thesea.","cbCaiuZksrfKpDXw","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiuZksrfKpDXw","pdf",4331510,3,1,24,"English","en",105,"# Jonah’s Calling\n# Jonah’s Flight\n# The Storm and Sailors’ Response\n# Jonah’s Explanation and Instruction","[{\"question\":\"Why does Jonah receive a message from the Lord?\",\"answer\":\"The Lord tells Jonah to go to Nineveh because the city is very wicked and to preach to its people.\"},{\"question\":\"How does Jonah respond to the divine command?\",\"answer\":\"Jonah goes in the opposite direction, trying to escape the Lord by boarding a ship sailing away from Nineveh.\"},{\"question\":\"What happens during the storm, and what does Jonah say to the sailors?\",\"answer\":\"The Lord sends a powerful wind and the storm becomes so violent that the ship is about to break.
